Probiotic strains, defined as live microorganisms that confer health benefits to the host when administered in adequate amounts, are widely incorporated into commercial products. Therefore, assessing the safety and functional attributes of 20 commercially available probiotic strains using complete genome sequencing is of immediate importance. Our analysis revealed that 15% of the products were mislabeled, containing species different from those declared on the label. Further, 12% of the tested strains harbored transferable antimicrobial resistance genes. However, 8% Bacillus species contained virulence-associated genes. Nonetheless probiotic-related genes linked to acid and bile tolerance were consistently found in Lactobacillus strains. These findings underscore the urgent need for standardized genomic safety assessments prior to the market approval of probiotic products.

Limosilactobacillus fermentum CRL2085, isolated from feedlot cattle rations, displayed high efficiency as a probiotic when administered to animals. A comprehensive genomic analysis was performed to elucidate the genetic basis underlying its probiotic potential. Fifteen genomic islands and CRISPR-Cas elements were identified in its genome.

Imbalances in the mammalian gut are associated with acute and chronic conditions, and using engineered probiotic strains to deliver synthetic constructs to treat them is a promising strategy. However, high rates of mutational escape and genetic instability limit the effectiveness of biocontainment circuits needed for safe and effective use. Here, we describe STALEMATE (equence enngd ulti lyered geneic buffring), a dual-layered failsafe biocontainment strategy that entangles genetic sequences to create pseudoessentiality and buffer against mutations.

The function of fermented and non fermented bamboo-derived feed additives in poultry nutrition is critically assessed in this review, with emphasis on the effects on growth performance, immunity, intestinal health, egg and meat quality. Fermented bamboo feeds have become a promising nutritional innovation in poultry production. The use of bamboo leaves and tender shoots in chicken feed is limited due to the presence of lignin and cellulose.

Antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) are increasingly subject to global regulatory restrictions and consumer pressure, driving the poultry industry toward antibiotic-free production systems. This shift has accelerated the search for effective alternatives, including innovative microbial additives, organic acids, phytogenics, and other bioactive compounds capable of supporting digestive function and enhancing immune competence in poultry. The aim of the presented study was to investigate the effects of prebiotic inulin, probiotic VSL#3 (mixture of bacteria from 7 different species and 8 strains) and synbiotic (inulin + VSL#3) supplements applied together with lacosamide (LCM) on post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE). In addition, effectiveness of the relevant treatments on comorbid problems related to learning and memory, anxiety, motor performance and pain threshold that may develop together with seizures due to traumatic brain injury (TBI) and PTE was also examined using behavioral tests. In experiments, adult male Sprague-Dawley rats, divided into 6 groups, were given 30 mg/kg LCM or 1000 mg/kg inulin together with LCM as prebiotic, VSL#3 mixture containing 10 × 10 CFU/kg bacterial colonies as probiotic and (inulin + VSL#3) as synbiotic for 28 days by oral gavage after mild-TBI was induced by weight-drop method and electroencephalogram electrodes were placed.
