Previous electroencephalogram (EEG) studies linked measures of spectral power under rest and fluid intelligence; however, subsequent high-powered studies challenged this relationship. The present study aimed to address previous limitations (low statistical power, lack of preregistration) and investigated the predictability of intelligence measures from resting-state EEG in the CoScience data set (N = 772). Support vector regressions were applied to analyze 8 min of resting-state EEG with eyes open and closed before and after unrelated tasks. The decoding performance between the spectral power of 59 EEG channels within 30 frequency bins and fluid and crystallized intelligence, was evaluated with a tenfold cross-validation. We could not identify any meaningful associations between resting-state EEG spectral power and either fluid or crystallized intelligence-a null finding that is unlikely to be entirely due to a relatively modest restriction of fluid intelligence variance in our student sample. Moreover, we did replicate the previously reported association between state sleepiness and theta power, attesting to the integrity of the CoScience data set. Furthermore, the decomposition of the EEG signal into its periodic and aperiodic components revealed that the aperiodic offset parameter is significantly correlated with state sleepiness, emphasizing the relevance of aperiodic signal components in understanding states of alertness versus sleepiness.

Three-dimensional printing (3DP) technology enables the flexible fabrication of integrated monolithic microextraction chips for high-throughput sample pretreatment. Meanwhile, the extraction performance of 3DP-based channels is largely limited by printer resolution and the commercially available printing materials. In this work, a 3DP array monolithic microextraction chip (AMC) was fabricated by integrating 26-array helical monolithic microextraction channels for sample pretreatment and 52-array gas valves for fluid control.

Global water scarcity demands next-generation desalination technologies that transcend the limitations of energy-intensive processes and salt accumulation. Herein, a groundbreaking interfacial solar steam generation system capable of simultaneous hypersaline desalination and ambient energy harvesting is introduced. Through hierarchical hydrogel architecture incorporating a central vertical channel and radial channels with gradient apertures, the design effectively decouples salt transport and water evaporation: solar-driven fluid convection directs water outward for evaporation, while inward salt migration prevents surface crystallization and redistributes excess heat.

We report an electro-enhanced catalytic etching approach for direct atomic-level patterning of single-crystal 4H-SiC (0001) surfaces. The process utilizes platinum-coated probes under a negative sample bias, which enhances catalytic reactions and promotes etching of SiC without additional mechanical load. Unlike traditional etching approaches that rely on hazardous chemicals such as hydrofluoric acid, this approach operates under ambient conditions, offering improved safety and environmental compatibility.

Objectives: To investigate the effect of avitinib for suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activation and alleviating septic shock and explore the underlying mechanism.
Methods: Mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM), human monocytic leukemia cell line THP-1, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) isolated from healthy volunteers were pre-treated with avitinib, followed by activation of the canonical NLRP3 inflammasome using agonists including nigericin, monosodium urate (MSU) crystals, or adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Non-canonical NLRP3 inflammasome activation was induced intracellular transfection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

Coextraction of Citrullus lanatus seeds and Citrus aurantium peels (1:1, w/w), two food processing wastes, was performed using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO) (345 bar|57 °C|178 min) and pet ether solvents. The major objective of the study was to valorize two fruit processing wastes to obtain a bioactive coextract using a green scCO extraction process and further incorporate it into wax-based composite oleofoams. The scCO coextraction resulted in better extraction of bioactive compounds such as d-limonene and polyunsaturated fatty acids due to the absence of light and lower temperature of extraction, compared to pet ether.
