This work presents a proof-of-concept solution designed to facilitate more accurate radiographic feature characterisation in pre-surgical CT/MR volumes. The solution involves 3D co-location of 2D digital histology slides within ex-vivo, tumour tissue CT volumes. Initially, laboratory dissection measurements seed the placement of histology slices in corresponding CT volumes, followed by in-plane point-based registration of bone in histology images to the bone in CT. Validation using six bisected canine humerus ex-vivo CT datasets indicated a plane misalignment of 0.19 ± 1.8 mm. User input sensitivity was assessed at 0.08 ± 0.2 mm for plane translation and 0-1.6° deviation. These results show a similar magnitude of error to related prostate histology co-location work. Although demonstrated with a femoral canine sarcoma tumour, this solution can be generalised to various orthopaedic geometries and sites. It supports high-fidelity histology image co-location to improve understanding of tissue characterisation accuracy in clinical radiology. This solution requires only minimal adjustment to routine workflows. By integrating histology insights earlier in the presentation-diagnosis-planning-surgery-recovery loop, this solution guides data co-location to support the continued evaluation of safe pre-surgical margins.

Chocolates and other cocoa products represent a multibillion-dollar industry that has faced significant price increases, largely due to a surge in cocoa plant diseases linked to climate change. One potential solution for mitigating cocoa prices involves the use of cocoa butter equivalents, substitutes, or replacers. Consequently, a rapid method for simultaneously determining multiple properties of cocoa derivatives can serve as a valuable tool for research and development of new products, quality control, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with cocoa product standards.

Adoptive cell transfers (ACTs) can interact specifically with inflamed tissues, but lack a mechanism for transport through viscous biological barriers such as mucus when administered locally. Further, maintaining cell function is challenging due to the loss of cellular phenotypes in diseased microenvironments. In this work, the use of magnetically controlled helical microrobots is examined to transport macrophages through physiologically representative mucus and maintain functional phenotypes through drug elution for improved cell delivery.

Background: The World Health Organization recommends at-home management of mild COVID-19. While our preliminary evaluation provided evidence for saline nasal irrigation (SNI) and gargling in COVID-19, an update and risk-benefit assessment for self-care in Omicron infection is warranted, from treatment and preparedness perspectives, as new SARS-CoV-2 variants continuously emerge, while symptoms overlap with those of common colds and other upper respiratory tract infections.
Methods: Systematic literature searches for preclinical and clinical studies involving Omicron infection and saline, bias assessment, and review of outcomes (benefits, risks).

Computational models of early language development involve implementing theories of learning as functional learning algorithms, exposing these models to realistic language input, and comparing learning outcomes to those in infants. While recent research has made major strides in developing more powerful learning models and evaluation protocols grounded in infant data, models are still predominantly trained with non-naturalistic input data, such as crowd-sourced read speech or text transcripts. This is due to the lack of suitable child-directed speech (CDS) corpora in terms of scale and quality.

Achieving uniform perovskite thin films via inkjet printing remains a significant challenge due to the pervasive coffee-ring effect. Here, we present a solute engineering strategy that incorporates shape-anisotropic perovskite nanorods into a single-solvent ink formulation, effectively suppressing coffee-ring formation and yielding ultraflat films with an average roughness (Ra) as low as 0.226 nm.
