Objectives: To explore the relationships between cardiac parameters and body composition indices, identifying predictors of subclinical cardiac systolic dysfunction.
Methods: Using anthropometric and serological parameters, echocardiography, and body composition analysis, this study evaluated metabolic profiles, cardiac remodeling patterns, and body composition characteristics in young adult obese patients, while quantifying the correlations between cardiac parameters and body composition indices. Subclinical left ventricular systolic dysfunction was defined as global longitudinal strain (GLS) < 18%.

Premise: The diversity-invasibility hypothesis suggests that native plant communities with high species diversity are more resistant to invasions by exotic species compared to those with fewer species. This resistance stems from more complete resource use and stronger biotic interactions in diverse communities, which limit opportunities for invaders to establish. However, this resistance could potentially be weakened by environmental stressors, including elevated tropospheric ozone.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a major global health burden. While interferon-alpha (IFNα) therapy demonstrates antiviral and immunomodulatory effects, reliable prognostic markers for sustained response are needed. Transaminases, hematological parameters, and cytokines may serve as potential predictors, but their dynamic changes during IFNα therapy remain poorly characterized.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is an emerging global health concern, and its presence increases the risk of multi-system diseases. This study aimed to investigate the multimorbidity trajectories of chronic diseases in people living with MASLD.
Methods: We identified 137 859 MASLD patients in UK Biobank and used 'propensity score matching' to match an equal number of non-MASLD controls.

Gastric cancer (GC) is the third leading cause of cancer mortality globally, often presenting with insidious symptoms that lead to late-stage diagnoses, underscoring the critical need for innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. One such avenue is the exploration of ferroptosis, a regulated form of cell death implicated in various pathological conditions and malignancies. In this study, we demonstrate that brucine, an alkaloid derived from Strychnos nux-vomica, exerts significant antitumor effects on GC cells both in vitro and in vivo.
