Comorbidity among atopic diseases (ADs) and gastrointestinal diseases (GIDs) has been repeatedly demonstrated by epidemiological studies, whereas the shared genetic liability remains largely unknown. Here we establish an atlas of the shared genetic architecture between 10 ADs or related traits and 11 GIDs, comprehensively investigating the comorbidity-associated genomic regions, cell types, genes and genetically predicted causality. Although distinct genetic correlations between AD-GID are observed, including 14 genome-wide and 28 regional correlations, genetic factors of Crohn's disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), celiac disease and asthma subtypes are converged on CD4 T cells consistently across relevant tissues. Fourteen genes are associated with comorbidities, with three genes are known treatment targets, showing probabilities for drug repurposing. Lower expressions of WDR18 and GPX4 in PBMC CD4 T cells predict decreased risk of CD and asthma, which could be novel drug targets. MR unveils certain ADs led to higher risk of GIDs or vice versa. Taken together, here we show distinct genetic correlations between AD-GID pairs, but the correlated genomic loci converge on the dysregulation of CD4 T cells. Inhibiting WDR18 and GPX4 expressions might be candidate therapeutic strategies for CD and asthma. Estimated causality indicates potential guidance for preventing comorbidity.

Diagnostic bones can aid in identification and size determination of fishes from ingested prey, archaeological remains or damaged specimens. We extracted diagnostic structures, including cleithra, dentaries, opercles and otoliths, from juvenile spring Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) from three distinct groups: hatchery, naturally produced and surrogate, representing shared genetics. Although our observations highlight that growth and life history are important considerations in structuring allometry, we note that a wide variety of diagnostic bones and measurement axes may be suitable for determining body lengths where remains may be damaged or incomplete.

Spodoptera frugiperda (FAW) is a notorious polyphagous pest that has developed resistance to various insecticides including diamide insecticides. Our previous study established a FAW cyantraniliprole-resistant (SfCYAN-R) strain by laboratory resistance selection of susceptible strain (SfCYAN-S), however, the potential resistance mechanisms of FAW to cyantraniliprole remain unclear. In this study, SfNrf6 encoding nose resistant to fluoxetine (Nrf) protein 6 was identified to be upregulated in SfCYAN-R strain compared with SfCYAN-S strain based on RNA-Seq data and RT-qPCR.

In 2022, cases of Monkeypox virus (MPXV) in California contained a mutation in the TNF receptor gene (GR2G) that rendered the virus undetectable using a widely adopted public health diagnostic qPCR assay. This underscored the need for a dual-target PCR approach and prompted validation of a second target by the BCCDC Public Health Laboratory. In addition to the GR2G target validated in the original qPCR assay (and duplexed with the endogenous target human β-globin (HBG)), GP113 (OPG128) was identified and validated using both clinical samples and MPXV DNA controls.
