The immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (ITME) and inherent radioresistance of tumor cells limit the effectiveness of radioimmunotherapy and exacerbate immune evasion. To address these challenges, PEGylated Azacitidine-loaded and Mn-doped calcium carbonate nanoparticles (A@MCP NPs) are synthesized as multifunctional nanoagent to enhance radioimmunotherapy outcomes. Upon acidic TME, the release of Ca and Mn from A@MCP NPs co-triggers intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation via Ca overload and Fenton-like reactions, inducing cytochrome C release and caspase-3 activation.

10-Hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA) is a medium-chain α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid that exists in royal jelly with terminal hydroxylation. It has a broad market value because of its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-radiation, and other active functions. The one-step whole-cell catalytic synthesis of 10-HDA by constructing engineered strains has improved the reaction rate to a certain extent compared with the previous two-step method.

Background: This study aimed to develop a BI-RADS network (DL-UM) via integrating ultrasound (US) and mammography (MG) images and explore its performance in improving breast lesion diagnosis and management when collaborating with radiologists, particularly in cases with discordant US and MG Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) classifications.

Methods: We retrospectively collected image data from 1283 women with breast lesions who underwent both US and MG within one month at two medical centres and categorised them into concordant and discordant BI-RADS classification subgroups. We developed a DL-UM network via integrating US and MG images, and DL networks using US (DL-U) or MG (DL-M) alone, respectively.

Introduction: Ferroptosis represents a promising therapeutic approach for breast cancer treatment. However, cancer cells can develop resistance through the SLC7A11-GSH-GPX4 axis, wherein increased SLC7A11 expression enhances cystine uptake, replenishes GSH, and reactivates GPX4. Notably, cells with high SLC7A11 expression become vulnerable to disulfidptosis under glucose-deprived conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to create predictive nomograms using clinical and ultrasound features to enhance the management of US BI-RADS 4A lesions.
  • Deep-learning (DL) algorithms performed better than traditional clinical experience (CE) methods in predicting outcomes for these lesions, showing higher accuracy and sensitivity.
  • The findings suggest that integrating DL into clinical practice could lead to better diagnostic decisions and reduce unnecessary biopsies.

Article Synopsis
  • Deep learning (DL) has been explored for detecting breast cancer in ultrasound images, with a systematic review comparing its accuracy to human readers.
  • The review analyzed 16 studies and found mixed results regarding DL's performance, with some studies indicating lower sensitivity than human readers while others showed comparable results.
  • Overall, there is insufficient evidence to claim that DL is better than human readers for breast ultrasound diagnosis, highlighting the need for standardized research methods to improve outcomes.

Objective: To evaluate the value of an integrated model incorporating deep learning (DL), hand-crafted radiomics and clinical and US imaging features for diagnosing central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC).

Methods: This retrospective study reviewed 613 patients with clinicopathologically confirmed PTC from two institutions. The DL model and hand-crafted radiomics model were developed using primary lesion images and then integrated with clinical and US features selected by multivariate analysis to generate an integrated model.

2-Pyridone ligand-facilitated palladium-catalyzed direct C-H bond functionalization via the transient directing group strategy has become an attractive topic. Here, we report a Pd-catalyzed direct -C(sp)-H arylation reaction of tertiary aliphatic aldehydes by using an -amino acid as a transient directing group in combination with a 2-pyridone ligand.

10-Hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA) is an important component of royal jelly, known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, blood pressure-lowering, and antiradiation effects. Currently, 10-HDA biosynthesis is limited by the substrate selectivity of acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase, which restricts the technique to a two-step process. This study aimed to develop an efficient and simplified method for synthesizing 10-HDA.

Objective: To develop a bimodal nomogram to reduce unnecessary biopsies in breast lesions with discordant ultrasound (US) and mammography (MG) Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) assessments.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 706 women following opportunistic screening or diagnosis with discordant US and MG BI-RADS assessments (where one assessed a lesion as BI-RADS 4 or 5, while the other assessed the same lesion as BI-RADS 0, 2, or 3) from two medical centres between June 2019 and June 2021. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to develop the nomogram.

Alkaline pectin lyase is an important enzyme with a wide range of applications in industrial production, It has been widely used in many important fields such as fruit juice processing and extraction, the dyeing and processing of cotton and linen textiles, degumming plant fibers, environmental industrial wastewater treatment, and pulp and paper production. PGLA-rep4 was previously generated as a modified alkaline pectin lyase with high specific activity at pH 11.0°C and 70°C.

Chemo-radiotherapy has been extensively used in clinics, displaying substantial advantages in treatment and prognosis. Stimuli-responsive biodegradable nanoagents that can achieve not only delivery and controlled release of chemotherapeutics, but also hypoxia alleviation to enhance chemoradiotherapy therefore has tremendous potential. Herein, glutathione (GSH)-responsive, biodegradable, doxorubicin-carrying hollow mesoporous organotantalum nanospheres modified with Au and Pt dual nanoenzymes (HMOTP@Pt@Au@Dox) were constructed for chemo-radio sensitization.

The diverse nature of organic precursors offers a versatile platform for precisely tailoring the electronic properties of semiconducting polymers. In this study, three fully conjugated sp carbon-linked polymers have been designed and synthesized for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution under visible-light illumination, by copolymerizing different C -symmetric aromatic aldehydes as knots with the 1,4-phenylene diacetonitrile (PDAN) linker through a C=C condensation reaction. The hydrogen evolution (HER) is achieved at a maximum rate of 30.
