Individuals with masked hypertension have out-of-office blood pressure (BP) readings in the hypertensive range, but office BP readings below the hypertensive cutoff, making masked hypertension less likely to be diagnosed. The aim of this study was to determine whether in-laboratory measurements of BP and vascular function in response to exercise can serve as indicators of masked hypertension in young adults. Thirty-three young men with office BP <130/80 mmHg, free of smoking and clinical diseases, were included in this study.

Background: Urate concentration and the physiological regulation of urate homeostasis exhibit clear sex differences. DNA methylation has been shown to explain a substantial proportion of serum urate variance, mediate the genetic effect on urate concentration, and co-regulate with cardiometabolic traits. However, whether urate concentration is associated with DNA methylation in a sex-dependent manner is unknown.

This perspective briefly summarized the progress of inorganic arsenic (As) treated with nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI) in water over the past two decades. The intrinsic interfacial reaction between As and nZVI encompassed multiple effects, such as complexation, oxidation, reduction, and co-precipitation, ascribed to core-shell structure of nZVI and environmental behavior of As in water. Surface complexation occurred via ligand exchange of arsenate anions with Fe-OH groups on the iron oxide shell.

Two-dimensional conjugated metal organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) hold significant promise as electrode materials for alkali metal ion batteries while their electrochemical properties still lack reasonable and effective regulation. Here, two representative 2D c-MOFs (M-HHTQ/M-HHTP, M=Cu or Ni) as positive electrodes are used as models to explore the basic/microscopic principles of their complex storage mechanism in sodium ion batteries (SIBs). It is demonstrated that the energy storage mechanism of 2D c-MOFs is determined by the interaction between coordination covalent bonds and organic linkers.

Two-dimensional conductive metal-organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) with high electrical conductivity and tunable structures hold significant promise for applications in metal-ion batteries. However, the construction of 3D interpenetrated c-MOFs for applications in metal-ion batteries is rarely reported. Herein, a 3D four-fold interpenetrated c-MOF (Cu-DBC) constructed by conjugated and contorted dibenzo[,]chrysene-2,3,6,7,10,11,14,15-octaol (DBC) ligands is explored as an advanced cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) for the first time.

Superbugs in groundwater are posing severe health risks through waterborne pathways. An emerging approach for green disinfection lies at photocatalysis, which levers the locally generated superoxide radical (·O) for neutralization. However, the spin-forbidden feature of O hinders the photocatalytic generation of active ·O, and thus greatly limited the disinfection efficiency, especially for real groundwater with a low dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration.

Mitophagy, the process by which cells eliminate damaged mitochondria, is mediated by PINK1 (PTEN induced kinase 1). Our recent research indicates that PINK1 functions as a tumor suppressor in colorectal cancer by regulating cellular metabolism. Interestingly, PINK1 ablation activated the NLRP3 (NLR family pyrin domain containing 3) inflammasome, releasing IL1B (interleukin 1 beta).

Unraveling the robust self-adaptivity and minimal energy-dissipation of soft reticular materials for environmental catalysis presents a compelling yet unexplored avenue. Herein, a top-down strategy, tailoring from the unique linkage basis, flexibility degree, skeleton electronics to trace-guest adaptability, is proposed to fill the understanding gap between micro-soft covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and photocatalytic performance. The thio(urea)-basis-dominated linkage within benzotrithiophene-based COFs induce the framework contraction/swelling (intralayer micro-flexibility) in response to tetrahydrofuran or water.

Microplastics and nanoplastics are emerging pollutants of concern in the aquatic environment that are causing increasing global environmental and human health problems. Although there has been extensive research on microplastics and nanoplastics, little has been said about the differences in their behavior in the aquatic environment, and many studies have considered them as the same class of hazardous materials; but in fact, microplastics and nanoplastics should be considered as two different types of environmentally hazardous materials. In this review, we propose that microplastics and nanoplastics behave in the aquatic environment in a size-dependent manner and should be distinguished.

Background And Aims: Non-selective beta-blockers (NSBB) are a well-established treatment in patients with clinically significant portal hypertension. However, their potential role after insertion of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) still needs to be determined. Of note, recent studies suggested that favourable anti-inflammatory effects of NSBB might be independent from pressure reduction.

Air self-charging aqueous batteries promise to integrate energy harvesting technology and battery systems, potentially overcoming a heavy reliance on energy and the spatiotemporal environment. However, the exploitation of multifunctional air self-charging battery systems using promising cathode materials and suitable charge carriers remains challenging. Herein, for the first time, we developed low-temperature self-charging aqueous Zn-K hybrid ion batteries (AZKHBs) using a fully conjugated hexaazanonaphthalene (HATN)-based porous aromatic framework as the cathode material, exhibiting redox chemistry using K as charge carriers, and regulating Zn-ion solvation chemistry to guide uniform Zn plating/stripping.
