Article Synopsis
  • Research focused on patients with metastatic clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (mccRCC) receiving immunotherapy and tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatments to evaluate the role of serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) as a potential biomarker.
  • Findings indicated that while baseline serum IgG levels did not significantly correlate with treatment response, an increase in serum IgG after 3 months of therapy was linked to a worse prognosis, including poorer progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).
  • The study concluded that elevated serum IgG levels after treatment serve as an independent risk factor for reduced patient outcomes, suggesting that monitoring IgG changes could help in evaluating treatment efficacy in mccRCC patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the role of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) as potential biomarkers for predicting the efficacy of systemic therapies in metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).
  • NET levels were significantly higher in tumor tissues compared to para-tumor tissues, with correlations found between NET levels and progression-free survival in specific patient groups.
  • Elevated NET levels were associated with poorer overall survival across both targeted therapy (TKI) and immune checkpoint inhibitor (IO-TKI) treatments, highlighting their potential as prognostic indicators in ccRCC treatment outcomes.

mPGES-1 is an enzyme, which, when activated by inflammatory factors, can cause prostaglandin E synthesis. Traditional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are capable of inhibiting prostaglandin production, yet they can also cause gastrointestinal reactions and coagulation disorders. mPGES-1, the enzyme at the conclusion of prostaglandin production, does not cause any adverse reactions when inhibited.

Determining the quantity of active virus is the most important basis to judge the risk of virus infection, which usually relies on the virus median tissue culture infectious dose (TCID) assay performed in a biosafety level 3 laboratory within 5-7 days. We have developed a culture-free method for rapid and accurate quantification of active severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) by targeting subgenomic RNA (sgRNA) based on reverse transcription digital PCR (RT-dPCR). The dynamic range of quantitative assays for sgRNA-N and sgRNA-E by RT-dPCR was investigated, and the result showed that the limits of detection (LoD) and quantification (LoQ) were 2 copies/reaction and 10 copies/reaction, respectively.

A large number of epidemics, including COVID-19 and SARS, quickly swept the world and claimed the precious lives of large numbers of people. Due to the concealment and rapid spread of the virus, it is difficult to track down individuals with mild or asymptomatic symptoms with limited human resources. Building a low-cost and real-time epidemic early warning system to identify individuals who have been in contact with infected individuals and determine whether they need to be quarantined is an effective means to mitigate the spread of the epidemic.
