Association between intraneural blood flow of the sciatic nerve, peripheral neuropathies, and foot ulcers in patients with diabetes.

Background: Intraneural blood flow (INBF) serves as a useful marker for diagnosing peripheral neuropathies. However, the specific relationship between sciatic nerve INBF (SN) and the occurrence of diabetic peripheral neuropathies (DPNs) and diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) remains ambiguous. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the association between SN, as detected by power Doppler ultrasound, and the presence of DPNs and DFUs in patients with diabetes.

Nutritional status of patients with driver gene mutation-negative non-small cell lung cancer after postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains a significant challenge for public health and is closely associated with malnutrition; however, few studies have attempted to examine the malnutrition experienced by patients with driver gene-negative NSCLC who have undergone combined chemotherapy after surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status of patients with driver gene-negative NSCLC who received adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery and examined the application value of three nutritional screening tools: Nutritional Risk Screening Scale 2022 (NRS-2002), the Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI), and the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment Scale (PG-SGA).

Methods: Data from patients with driver gene-negative NSCLC who underwent sleeve surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital from January 2021 to December 2021 were prospectively collected.

[Expression and clinical significance of NEK2 and EMT related molecules in oral squamous cell carcinoma].

Purpose: To investigate the expression and significance of NEK2 and EMT-related molecules in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Methods: The expression levels of NEK2 and EMT-related molecules (E-Cadherin, N-Cadherin, Vimentin) in 60 cases of primary OSCC tissues and normal oral mucosa tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry(IHC). NEK2 mRNA expression in 25 OSCC tissues and 10 normal oral mucosa tissues was detected by qRT-PCR.

Background: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the common clinical adverse events associated with sodium/glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) use compared to placebo in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) with or without type 2 diabetes.

Methods: Twelve articles were chosen a systematic search of the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. We screened for randomised placebo-controlled trials.

[Effect of catgut implantation on macrophage CD68, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1β in "Zusanli" (ST 36) region of rats].

Objective: To observe the expression of local macrophages and related cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) after catgut implantation in "Zusanli"(ST 36) in rats, so as to explore its underlying mechanisms in inducing therapeutic effect.

Methods: A total of 110 male SD rats were randomly divided into blank control group (=10), catgut embedding (CE) group (=50), and sham CE group (=50). The CE and sham CE groups were randomly divided into 8 h, 3 d, 7 d, 14 d and 21 d subgroups after the intervention (=10 in each time point group).

Evaluation of Sciatic Nerve Stiffness Using Shear Wave Elastography in Patients with Unilateral Diabetic Foot Ulcers.

Objective: To evaluate the stiffness of the sciatic nerve by shear wave elastography (SWE) and to determine whether SWE can be used to predict diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) in a patient with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).

Methods: Sixteen patients (thirty-two lower limbs) with unilateral DFU were studied retrospectively. The ultrasonographic parameters including cross-sectional area (CSA) of sciatic nerve, intraneural blood flow, peak systolic velocity (Vmax) and resistive index (RI) in the intraneural artery of the sciatic nerve, and the SWE stiffness value of the sciatic nerve were measured.

Objectives: To study the value of autotaxin (an autocrine motility factor) level in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in predicting refractory pneumonia (RMPP) in children and its correlation with interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and C-reactive protein (CRP).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 238 children with pneumonia who were admitted from January 2019 to December 2021. According to disease severity, they were divided into two groups: RMPP (=82) and general pneumonia (GMPP; =156).

Background: Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is the first-line treatment for patients with unresectable liver cancer; however, TACE is associated with postembolization pain.

Cloning and characterization of two chlorophyll A/B binding protein genes and analysis of their gene family in Camellia sinensis.

In this study, two chlorophyll A/B binding protein (CAB) genes (CsCP1 and CsCP2) in tea plant were cloned. The proteins encoded by these genes belong to the external or internal antenna proteins of PS II, respectively. They may be the targets of physiological regulation for tea leaf cell PS II because they all contain multiple functional domains and modifiable sites.

Use of a novel index, the A-index, and its associated nomogram to predict overall survival rates after resection of primary hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background: Several international staging or scoring systems don't accurately predict overall survival (OS) after resection of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHCC). Therefore, we attempted to overcome this limitation by constructing the A-index and its associated nomogram.

Methods: We selected 672 patients who underwent curative resection of PHCC between January 2007 and February 2015 at the first affiliated hospital of the Wenzhou medical university.

Objective: To compare the functions and complications of forearm basilic vein transposition-arteriovenous fistula (BVT-AVF) created using the no-touch technique with that of conventional radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula (RC-AVF).

Materials And Methods: The no-touch technique was used to created basilic vein transposition-radial artery fistula in 22 patients. Another 30 patients received surgeries for RC-AVF.

Sustained low-efficiency diafiltration is superior to hemodialysis in promoting renal function recovery in elderly wasp sting victims with stage III acute kidney injury: a retrospective study.

To study the efficacy and safety of sustained low-efficiency diafiltration (SLEDf) hemodialysis (HD) for patients with wasp stings who developed stage III acute kidney injury (AKI). We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of consecutive patients who developed AKI following wasp stings. All eligible patients received renal replacement therapy in combination with hemoperfusion.

Background: To evaluate the treatment of sustained low-efficiency hemodialysis (SLED) against patients with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) following wasp stings.

Methods: Clinical data of 35 patients with MODS following wasp stings were retrospectively analysed. These patients were divided into three groups according to the treatment strategy used: 1) hemodialysis (HD) group, 2) continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH)/HD group, and 3) SLED/HD group.

The stimuli-sensitive and biodegradable hydrogels are promising biomaterials as controlled drug delivery systems for diverse biomedical applications. In this study, we construct hybrid hydrogels combined with peptide-based bis-acrylate and acrylic acid (AAc). The peptide-based bis-acrylate/AAc hybrid hydrogel displays an interconnected and porous structure by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation and exhibits pH-dependent swelling property.

Peripheral Arterial Disease in Type 2 Diabetes Is Associated with an Increase in Fibrinogen Levels.

Background: The present study is undertaken to investigate the fibrinogen levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its relation to peripheral artery disease (PAD) based on a more accurate and applied noninvasive measurements of duplex ultrasonography.

Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study including 1096 T2DM patients (474 males and 622 females). The odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were presented to show the association between PAD and fibrinogen in the subjects divided by fibrinogen levels quarterly.

Maternal high-fat diet impairs glucose metabolism, β-cell function and proliferation in the second generation of offspring rats.

Background: This study aimed to assess the impact of perinatal high-fat (HF) diet in female Sprague-Dawley rats (F0) on glucose metabolism and islet function in their early life of second-generation of offspring (F2).

Methods: F0 rats were fed with a standard chow (SC) or HF diet for 8 weeks before mating, up to termination of lactation for their first-generation of offspring (F1-SC and F1-HF). F1 females were mated with normal males at the age of week 11, and producing F2 offspring (F2-SC, F2-HF).

Updated incidence rates and risk factors of esophageal cancer in Nan'ao Island, a coastal high-risk area in southern China.

Esophageal cancer (EC) is one of the most common cancers in China. The purpose of this study was to investigate the updated incidence rates and risk factors of EC in Nan'ao Island, where the EC incidence rate was chronically the highest in southern China. To calculate the annual incidence rate, data on 338 EC cases from Nan'ao Cancer Registry system diagnosed during 2005-2011 were collected.
