Background: Ensuring lifelong health among aging populations necessitates comprehensive assessments of functional recovery and quality of life, particularly for vulnerable groups such as older adult stroke survivors. While the Stroke Impact Scale (SIS) 3.0 is a widely validated instrument for evaluating health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in stroke survivors, its psychometric properties have not yet been examined in the Vietnamese context.

Naturally derived Schiff-based hydrogels are widely fabricated for tissue engineering applications. However, limited studies have explored how the physicochemical and functional groups on polymer chains affect cell behavior in three dimensions. To address this limitation, we fabricated cytocompatible N-O carboxymethyl chitosan (NOCC) cross-linked with oxidized xanthan gum (OXG), incorporating various aldehyde (-CHO) contents (NO1, NO2, and NO3) while maintaining a constant concentration of NOCC, resulting in hydrogels with diverse viscoelastic and aldehyde content properties.

Background: The prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has increased, particularly among individuals who have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Health literacy is considered a "social vaccine" that helps people respond effectively to the pandemic. We aimed to investigate the association between long COVID-19 and PTSD, and to examine the modifying role of health literacy in this association.

Article Synopsis
  • The substantia gelatinosa in the trigeminal subnucleus caudalis is a key area for processing pain signals from the face; this study investigates how naringenin, a natural bioflavonoid, affects GABA responses in this region.
  • Naringenin was shown to enhance GABA-mediated responses in some neurons while suppressing them in others, with these effects depending on the nature (slow or fast) of the GABA response and also being influenced by the concentration of naringenin.
  • Additionally, the response to GABA varied by sex, with juvenile female mice showing predominantly slow responses and juvenile males showing faster responses, suggesting that naringenin could be a potential treatment for orofacial pain tailored to sex differences

Introduction: Neuropathic pain is a debilitating condition resulting from various etiologies such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and infection, and is associated with decreased quality of life, poor health outcomes, and increased economic burden. However, epidemiological studies on neuropathic pain have been largely limited in Vietnam.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on adult Vietnamese industrial workers across three manufacturing plants.

The synthesis of cationic polyacrylamides (CPAMs) with the desired cationic degree and molecular weight is essential for various industries, including wastewater treatment, mining, paper, cosmetic chemistry, and others. Previous studies have already demonstrated methods to optimize synthesis conditions to obtain high-molecular-weight CPAM emulsions and the effects of cationic degrees on flocculation processes. However, the optimization of input parameters to obtain CPAMs with the desired cationic degrees has not been discussed.

Introduction: This study aimed to determine latent profiles from the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire Short Form-6 (PIUQ-SF-6) score of Vietnamese youths and adolescents, which supports the diagnosis of problematic internet use among a large sample size. Moreover, it also explored factors that affect each latent profile of the PIUQ-SF-6 score among participants.

Methods: A sample of 1477 Vietnamese people, aged 14 to 24, across five provinces participated in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates social media addiction among Vietnamese youths, noting that they are particularly vulnerable to its negative effects, with a focus on factors contributing to addiction.
  • - Researchers conducted an online survey from June to July 2020, utilizing a structured questionnaire to assess demographics, addiction levels (via the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale), and the impact of stress and FOMO (fear of missing out).
  • - Findings reveal that certain demographics influence addiction levels, with Facebook, Zalo, and YouTube being the most popular platforms; FOMO and peer-related stress are strongly linked to higher addiction scores, highlighting the need for targeted interventions in various sectors.

Article Synopsis
  • Two-dimensional van der Waals magnetic semiconductors, like transition-metal iodides CrI and VI, have unique properties that make them promising for new optical, electronic, and magnetic applications.
  • The study combines X-ray electron spectroscopies and theoretical computations to fully characterize the electronic ground states of CrI and VI, highlighting a wide bandgap in CrI and a Mott insulating phase in VI.
  • Findings suggest that the electronic properties are significantly affected by dimensionality, particularly through the discovery of a surface-only V oxidation state in VI, which impacts band engineering and the functionalities of these materials.
