To improve the long-term reliability and sensitivity of the sensing system, a novel method for cable joint monitoring based on implanting optical fibers within the joint structure is proposed. The electric field distribution of the optical fiber-implanted cable joint was simulated, followed by electrical performance tests, demonstrating that optical fiber implantation had a negligible effect on the electrical properties of the cable joint.

DFT calculations were utilized to explore the electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) mechanisms catalyzed by trimetallic clusters M (M = Ti, Zr, V, and Nb), both unsupported and supported by bowl-shaped sumanene. The substrate enhanced N adsorption and activation but hindered hydrogenation due to more negative adsorption energies. The substrate promoted hydrogenation of nitrogen, reducing the interference of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and enhancing the NRR selectivity.

However, the regulation enforcement varies by government, hindering its effectiveness in controlling OTs contamination. For example, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Government enacted related legislation in January 2017.

However, RDCs and associated ecological risks have not been thoroughly investigated inside urban sewer networks and their receiving water bodies. To address these issues, we investigated the RDCs in Hong Kong's municipal sewer networks, including sewage and stormwater, as well as their receiving waters, such as rivers and coastal water.

This influx poses a significant threat to marine ecosystems. The Global Estuaries Monitoring (GEM) Programme, endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), aims to establish a standardized method for monitoring pharmaceuticals in the world's estuaries.

Tire wear particles (TWPs) released during vehicle driving can enter water bodies, leading to leaching of tire additives (TAs) in aquatic environments. However, the transformation behavior and related ecological impacts of TAs and their transformation products (TPs) remain unclear. In this study, laboratory-based simulation experiments and field investigations were conducted to explore the transformation mechanisms and ecological risks of TAs.

To synthesize pharmaceutical pollution levels in estuaries over the past 20 years from a global perspective, this review identified 3229 individual environmental occurrence data for 239 pharmaceuticals across 91 global estuaries distributed in 26 countries. The highest cumulative weighted average concentration level (WACL) of all detected pharmaceuticals in estuarine water was observed in Africa (145,461.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the correlation between long-term blood pressure variability (BPV) and the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) among population with different blood pressure statuses (normotension, well-controlled hypertension, and uncontrolled hypertension).
Methods: In this ambispective cohort study, CVD-free residents aged over 50 years were consecutively enrolled from two community health service centers (CHCs) in Tianjin, China from April 2017 to May 2017. Information on blood pressure was retrospectively extracted from electronic medical records of CHCs between January 2010 and May 2017, and the occurrence of new-onset CVDs was prospectively observed during follow-up until September 2019.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of amide polymer (AP) on the permeability, mechanical properties and crack resistance of loess by orthogonal experiments. The basic properties of AP and the permeability, mechanical properties, and dry-wet variation properties of polymer-modified loess were tested, and a scale model verification and simulation analysis were conducted.

Heart failure (HF),a chronic progressive disease,is a global health problem and the leading cause of deaths in the global population. The pathophysiological abnormalities of HF mainly include abnormal cardiac structure (myocardium and valves),disturbance of electrophysiological activities, and weakened myocardial contractility. In addition to drug therapy and heart transplantation, interventional therapies can be employed for advanced-stage HF,including transcatheter interventions and mechanical circulatory assist devices.

Additionally, a robust framework needs to be developed to integrate multiple variables related to ecological impacts for improving the ecological health assessment. Therefore, OPEs and TPs in urban stormwater and wastewater in Hong Kong were analyzed to fill these gaps.

Riverine microplastics (MPs) have been commonly investigated using sequential sampling which might not effectively reflect the actual load. In this study, sampling at eight outlets was performed during a complete tidal cycle to estimate the MP flux to the Pearl River Estuarine (PRE) using a concurrent sampling strategy.

The release of microplastics from sewage treatment works (STWs) into the oceans around coastal cities is well documented. However, there are fewer studies on the microplastic abundance in stormwater drains and their emissions into the coastal marine environment via sewage and stormwater drainage networks. Here, we comprehensively investigated microplastic abundance in 66 sewage and 18 sludge samples collected from different process stages at three typical STWs and 36 water samples taken from six major stormwater drains during the dry and wet seasons in Hong Kong, which is a metropolitan city in south China.
