The nonlinear magneto-optical rotation (NMOR) atomic magnetometer is a highly sensitive total-field device with significant applications in fundamental physics, geophysics, and biomedical monitoring. The atomic polarization, which is optically induced through resonant light pumping, plays a pivotal role in determining the sensitivity and stability of the magnetometer. In this paper, refined analysis and representation of atomic polarization in NMOR atomic magnetometers are presented through the establishment of a three-dimensional polarization distribution model based on the rate equation.

Introduction: Autophagy is an important process in host cell responses to viral replication and spread, including those against infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV). Programmed death-1 (PD-1) is a known immunoinhibitory receptor, and its expression causes immune dysfunction in B lymphocytes, resulting in increased progression of immunosuppressive diseases. However, the role of PD-1 in autophagy during IBDV infection remains unclear.

The ultimate potential of B cells imprinted by ancestral SARS-CoV-2 in developing neutralizing breadth and potency remains to be explored. Here, we longitudinally tracked B cells that recognize the wild-type spike in two individuals who were repeatedly infected by Omicron variants after receiving prototype mRNA vaccines. Functional and genetic analysis of 632 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) from those B cells reveals that mAbs cloned after a second infection have dramatically enhanced neutralizing breadth and potency due to immune recalls.

The conventional single-beam free-induction-decay (FID) magnetometers based on an optical modulation scheme suffer from the reduction of signal in non-orthogonal magnetic field orientations, leading to worse magnetometer sensitivity. Here, we propose a scheme to enhance the signal in single-beam FID magnetometers by manipulation of spin polarization. The spin polarization built up by synchronous optical pumping is rotated to fully undergo free precession under the manipulation of the RF pulse field.

To circumvent the toxicity problem of lead, looking out for lead-free perovskites with a broadband emission and associated LEDs that cover the full region of white light is the key to research in sustainable chemistry and material community. In order to improve the luminescence properties of inorganic lead-free perovskites, chemical doping engineering is utilized. We have found that yttrium plays an important role as a dopant in broadening the emission of inorganic perovskites.

PET/CT-guided ablation is increasingly being used in interventional oncology, due to its unique ability for precise tumor targeting and real-time intraprocedural evaluation of treatment completeness. This modality is extremely useful for targeting hypermetabolic tumors that may not be conspicuous on anatomic imaging. Intraprocedural postablation PET/CT can detect residual unablated tumor and depict ablation margins, permitting repeat ablation within the same treatment session.

Whether Omicron exposures could overcome ancestral SARS-CoV-2 immune imprinting remains controversial. Here we analyzed B cell responses evoked by sequential Omicron infections in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Plasma neutralizing antibody titers against ancestral SARS-CoV-2 and variants indicate that immune imprinting is not consistently induced by inactivated or recombinant protein vaccines.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease mediated by B cells and is associated with acetylcholine receptor (AChR) and muscle-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (MuSK) antibodies in the postsynaptic membrane at the neuromuscular junction. Anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies, such as ofatumumab demonstrated promising disease control in MG patients. We presented the rare case of a 34-year-old female with acetylcholine receptor-positive myasthenia gravis (AChR-MG), concomitant with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and metastatic thyroid carcinoma, who was treated with ofatumumab and exhibited improvements during follow-up.

Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1), which is mainly processed and cleaved from proglucagon in enteroendocrine cells (EECs) of the intestinal tract, acts on the GLP1 receptor in pancreatic cells to stimulate insulin secretion and to inhibit glucagon secretion. However, GLP1 processing is not fully understood. Here, we show that reticulon 4B (Nogo-B), an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident protein, interacts with the major proglucagon fragment of proglucagon to retain proglucagon on the ER, thereby inhibiting PCSK1-mediated cleavage of proglucagon in the Golgi.

Self-tracking and personal informatics offer important potential in chronic condition management, but such potential is often undermined by difficulty in aligning self-tracking tools to an individual's goals. Informed by prior proposals of goal-directed tracking, we designed and developed MigraineTracker, a prototype app that emphasizes explicit expression of goals for migraine-related self-tracking. We then examined migraine patient experiences in a deployment study for an average of 12+ months, including a total of 50 interview sessions with 10 patients working with 3 different clinicians.
