The noninvasive estimation of interstitial fluid pressure (IFP) using ultrasound contrast agent (UCA) microbubbles as pressure sensors will provide tumor treatments and efficacy assessments with a promising tool. This study aimed to verify the efficacy of the optimal acoustic pressure in vitro in the prediction of tumor IFPs based on UCA microbubbles' subharmonic scattering. A customized ultrasound scanner was used to generate subharmonic signals from microbubbles' nonlinear oscillations, and the optimal acoustic pressure was determined in vitro when the subharmonic amplitude reached the most sensitive to hydrostatic pressure changes.

  • The study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of probiotics in treating urticaria using randomized controlled trial data published before May 2019.
  • A total of nine studies were analyzed, revealing that single probiotics showed a significant therapeutic effect compared to placebo and antihistamines, while multiple probiotics did not demonstrate a statistically significant improvement.
  • The incidence of side effects was comparable between the probiotic and control groups, indicating that probiotics are generally safe for use in urticaria treatment.

Radiation therapy plays an important role in the treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the radiocurability is greatly limited because of radioresistance which leads to treatment failure, tumor recurrence, and metastasis. Cancer stem cell (CSC) has been identified as the main factor that contributes to radiation resistance.

Objectives: Brain metastases (BMs) are common in extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) and are underrepresented in pivotal clinical trials that demonstrate the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). We conducted a retrospective analysis to assess the role of ICIs in BM lesions in less selected patients.

Materials And Methods: Patients with histologically confirmed extensive-stage SCLC who were treated with ICIs were included in this study.

Unlabelled: This study revealed that there was no significant linear relationship between fasting C-peptide (FCP) level and bone mineral density (BMD) or fracture risk in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. However, in the FCP ≤ 1.14 ng/ml group, FCP is positively correlated with whole body (WB), lumbar spine (LS), and femoral neck (FN) BMD and negatively correlated with fracture risk.

COD/NO -N ratio was considered to be one of the key factors achieving effective nitrite accumulation during partial denitrification. In two parallel reactors incubated with glucose as carbon source at COD/NO -N of 3 and 5, respectively, the microbial community structure shift and the nitrite accumulation performance during long-term operation were investigated. The maximum nitrite accumulation ratios at COD/NO -N of 3 and 5 were 17.

Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics and prognosis of multiple myeloma(MM) patients with secondary primary malignancies.

Methods: The clinical data of newly diagnosed MM patients admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2011 to December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients with secondary primary malignancies were retrieved, and their clinical features and prognosis were evaluated.

Common natural and synthetic high-strength materials (such as rubber, plastics, ceramics, and metals) undergo the occurrence of poor deformability. Achieving high strength and large deformation simultaneously is a huge challenge. Herein, high-strength ionogels are developed through the synergy of force-induced crystallization and halometallate ionic liquid created supramolecular ionic networks.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the link between CEUS LI-RADS categories (LR 3-5 and LR-M) and survival outcomes in patients with early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) post-treatment.
  • It analyzed data from 272 high-risk HCC patients treated between 2010 and 2015, focusing on factors like recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) until 2018.
  • Results indicate that LR-M patients have poorer outcomes compared to LR 3-5 patients, with surgical resection offering better survival rates than radiofrequency ablation, highlighting the potential of CEUS LI-RADS to predict patient outcomes after initial HCC treatment.

Osteoporosis is characterized by decreased bone mass, microarchitectural deterioration, and increased bone fragility. High-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity also results in bone loss, which is associated with an imbalanced gut microbiome. However, whether HFD-induced obesity or HFD itself promotes osteoclastogenesis and consequent bone loss remains unclear.

The migratory insect Mythimna separata is a major pest of grain crops in Asia. Unfortunately, the molecular mechanisms that control and regulate reproduction in this species remain unclear. In this study, transcriptome sequencing was utilized to identify genes associated with ovary development and oogenesis.

The subtypes of duodenal cancer (DC) are complicated and the carcinogenesis process is not well characterized. We present comprehensive characterization of 438 samples from 156 DC patients, covering 2 major and 5 rare subtypes. Proteogenomics reveals LYN amplification at the chromosome 8q gain functioned in the transmit from intraepithelial neoplasia phase to infiltration tumor phase via MAPK signaling, and illustrates the DST mutation improves mTOR signaling in the duodenal adenocarcinoma stage.

Under the background of China's strategy of becoming a powerful agricultural country, geographical indications (GIs) of agricultural products, as an important intellectual property right to enable Chinese agriculture to develop with high quality, have a strong effect of strengthening and promoting agriculture. However, there are a large number of infringements of GIs among agricultural products in judicial practice, which not only greatly damage the economic and social values of GIs of agricultural products, but also bring huge food safety hazards to consumers and hinder the overall protection of intellectual property rights in China. On this basis, this paper, with the help of a quasi-case research method, integrates the facts of relevant cases, the focus of disputes, the application of law, and other case elements to realize the case similarity judgment based on the legal argumentation model.

Objective: This study aims to observe the changes of the umbilical venous-arterial index (VAI) and investigate its predictive power for fetal outcome during the second half of pregnancy.

Methods: Fetuses with gestational age (GA) at 24-39 weeks were collected. According to the outcome score, neonates with outcome scores of 0, 1, or 2 were assigned to the control group, whereas those with scores of 3-12 were assigned to the compromised group.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is malignant while the carcinogenesis is still unclear. Here, we perform a comprehensive multi-omics analysis of 786 trace-tumor-samples from 154 ESCC patients, covering 9 histopathological stages and 3 phases. Proteogenomics elucidates cancer-driving waves in ESCC progression, and reveals the molecular characterization of alcohol drinking habit associated signatures.

Epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) of tumor cells is recognized as the main driver to promote metastasis. Extensive researches suggest that gradually decreased E-cadherin (E-cad) and increased N-cadherin (N-cad) exist in the tumor cells during the EMT process. However, there still lacks suitable imaging methods to monitor the status of EMT for evaluating tumor metastatic potentials.

Microplastic pollution of the ocean has received extensive attention as plastic pollution increases globally, but the potential ecological risks caused by microplastic interactions with trace metals still require further research. In this study, Apostichopus japonicus was used to explore the individual and combined toxicities of cadmium (Cd) and microplastics and their effects on growth, Cd tissue accumulation, digestive enzymes, and gut microbes. The body weight gain and specific growth rate of animals exposed to a combination of high concentrations of Cd and microplastics decreased.
