Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that affects the periodontal supporting tissues. Its cardinal clinical manifestations encompass gingival inflammation, periodontal pocket formation, and alveolar bone resorption. Urolithin A (UA), a gut microbiota-derived metabolite of ellagitannins, is known for its anti-inflammatory and osseous-protective properties.

Isolated central nervous system (CNS) involvement accounts for <5% of cases. Its clinical and radiological features often mimic meningioma, lymphoma, or metastatic disease, leading to frequent misdiagnosis.

Reticulophagy is recently identified as an integral process in maintaining ER homeostasis during ER stress. However, our knowledge of reticulophagy in lipotoxicity remains limited, and the underlying molecular mechanisms are unclear.

The rupture released lipid components, potentially causing inflammatory vascular reactions and ischemic events. Initial symptoms included binocular diplopia and later progressed to limb weakness and facial twitching.

Background And Aims: Accurate pre-treatment tumor staging is essential for treatment decision-making. Multi-slice spiral computed tomography (CT) is currently the standard method for pre-operative clinical tumor staging, but accurately applying the CT findings in tumor staging remains a challenge due to the poor pathological understanding of the CT signs. We aimed to pathologically interpret the key CT findings in order to identify reliable markers for pre-treatment staging of colon cancer.

Topological edge states (TESs) and topological corner states (TCSs) in photonic crystals (PCs) provide an effective way to control the propagation and localization of light. The topological performance of integrated photonic devices can be improved by introducing the basic structural unit of photonic quasicrystals (PQCs) into PCs. However, the previous works arranged the basic structural unit of Stampfli-type and 12-fold Penrose-type photonic quasicrystals into triangular lattices, which have a complex structure and allow light to only propagate around 60° or 120° corners, limiting their applications.

This study employed atomic layer deposition (ALD) to fabricate an AlO passivation layer to optimize the performance of ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors with a TiO-nanorod-(NR)-containing active layer and a solid-liquid heterojunction (SLHJ). To reduce the processing time and enhance light absorption, a hydrothermal method was used to grow a relatively thick TiO-NR-containng working electrode. Subsequently, a 5-nm-thick AlO passivation layer was deposited on the TiO NRs through ALD, which has excellent step coverage, to reduce the surface defects in the TiO NRs and improve the carrier transport efficiency.

Existing optimization research on the crankshaft heat treatment process is mostly based on one-sided considerations, and less consideration is given to the matching of multiple process parameters, leading to irrational designs of heat treatment. To address this problem, this work investigates the influence mechanisms of cooling speed, tempering temperature, and holding time on the performance evaluation indexes of the straightness, residual stress, and martensite content of a crankshaft based on the response surface method. The results showed that the order of influence of these three different process parameters on the performance evaluation index was cooling speed > holding time > tempering temperature, and the order of influence on the performance evaluation indexes under multifactorial process parameters was cooling speed-holding time > cooling speed-tempering temperature > holding time-tempering temperature.

Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a pivotal event in diabetic retinopathy (DR). This study explored the role of circRNA zinc finger protein 532 (circZNF532) in regulating EndMT in DR progression. Human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMECs) were exposed to high glucose (HG) to induce the DR cell model.

However, the pathogenesis of DR is complex, and no firm conclusions have been drawn so far. It has become a hot spot in ophthalmology research to deeply study the mechanism of DR pathological changes and find effective treatment options.

Cold-rolled EA4T steel was heat-treated by inter-critical holding at 755 °C for 90, 120, 180, and 240 s, respectively, and then quenching in water. The tensile testing results of the EA4T specimens show an evident transition from the discontinuous yielding to the continuous yielding of the steel specimens by prolonging the holding time. A novel relationship between the discontinuous yielding behavior of tensile-deformed steel specimens and the carbide size was proposed based on experimental results and Cottrell's theory.

Qu-Zhuo-Tong-Bi () is an empirical traditional Chinese medicine prescription for treating acute gouty arthritis clinically without serious adverse effects in mainland China. However, the biochemical mechanism underlying the therapeutic action produced by treatment against acute gouty arthritis and the effect on recurrent attack remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of on acute gouty arthritis and the recurrent attack in rats, as well as the underlying mechanisms.

Methods: A total of 90 male SD rats were randomly divided into 6 EA groups:CV12-1 mA+ST36-1 mA, CV12-1 mA+ST36-2 mA, CV12-1 mA+ST36-4 mA, ST36-1 mA+CV12-1 mA, ST36-2 mA+CV12-1 mA, and ST36-4 mA+CV12-1 mA which the first acupoint was stimulated first, followed by the second in each group (=15 rats/group). Before (1 min), and 0-30 s, 30-60 s, 60 -90 s, and 90-120 s during EA stimulation of the left ST36 or CV12 first or later, the IGP was measured via an inserted intragastric balloon, a connected pressure transducer and an amplifier.

Colorectal anastomosis remains a key aspect in mid- and lower-rectal surgery, particularly in patients who are male, obese, status post neoadjuvant chemoradiation, or possess narrow pelvic anatomy. Transanal total mesorectal excision (taTME) and transabdominal total mesorectal excision (TME) both primarily allow position of the tumor to dictate whether circular stapling or hand-sewing is utilized to achieve anastomosis. Given that taTME only requires a single circular stapler to achieve anastomosis, it consequently decreases the risk of jeopardizing blood supply to the anastomotic site.

Differentiating between malignant phyllodes tumors and metaplastic spindle cell carcinomas could be problematic, especially on core biopsies. Immunohistochemical staining for cytokeratin cocktail and p63 has been utilized to differentiate between these tumor types. Forty-three phyllodes tumors (27 benign, 6 borderline, and 10 malignant) and 22 metaplastic carcinomas, consisting at least 80% of spindle cells, were identified.

This study achieved a nanocomposite structure of nickel oxide (NiO)/titanium dioxide (TiO₂) heterojunction on a TiO₂ film surface. The photocatalytic activity of this structure evaluated by decomposing methylene blue (MB) solution was strongly correlated to the conductive behavior of the NiO film. A -type NiO film of high concentration in contact with the native -type TiO₂ film, which resulted in a strong inner electrical field to effectively separate the photogenerated electron-hole pairs, exhibited a much better photocatalytic activity than the controlled TiO₂ film.
