Background: PMMA bone cement is known to induce tissue inflammation around implants. A previous research group developed a novel material, enoxaparin sodium bone cement (ES-PMMA), which combines 40 g of PMMA bone cement with 8000 AxaIU of enoxaparin sodium. This innovative bone cement has demonstrated anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties within the local tissue microenvironment.

Humphead wrasse, Cheilinus undulatus, is an endangered fish species with high economic and ecological value as well as natural sex change from female to male, while sexual selection occurs in breeding aggregations. In our present study, we constructed the first gap-free telomere-to-telomere (T2T) genome assembly for humphead wrasse, by integration of PacBio HiFi, ONT Ultra-long and Hi-C sequencing techniques. With 99% of the entire sequences anchored into 24 chromosomes, this haplotypic genome assembly spans approximately 1.

Objective: To determine the material parameters of PMMA and ES-CS-PMMA, and compare the stress distribution differences in hip arthroplasty postoperatively using finite element analysis.

Methods: The Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of PMMA and ES-CS-PMMA were calculated by measuring the propagation speed of ultrasound waves through the bone cements. Using CT images of a healthy adult male, a three-dimensional model of the natural femur and two postoperative 3D models (with PMMA and ES-CS-PMMA as adhesives) were established.

DNA methylation, also known as 5-methylcytosine, is an epigenetic modification that has crucial functions in multiple important biological processes in fish, such as gonadal development. The cellular DNA methylation level is tightly regulated by DNA methyltransferases (Dnmt). However, detailed investigations of this family in fish are very scarce.

Extrachromosomal circular DNAs (eccDNAs) play a significant role in regulating various biological processes, including abnormal muscle development. The molecular functions and impact of eccDNAs in the muscle development of fish are poorly understood. To investigate the potential roles of eccDNAs in the muscle development of fish, we analyzed and compared the expression profile of muscle eccDNAs of crisp grass carp, fed a faba bean meal-based diet, and ordinary grass carp, fed a practical diet.

Objective: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM)-associated heart failure (HF) presents a significant clinical challenge, underlying epigenetic mechanisms remaining poorly understood. This study aims to investigate the interplay between DNA methylation and gene expression in the hearts of patients with DCM-associated HF (DCM-HF).

Methods: Atrial tissues were collected from five healthy donors and five heart transplant recipients suffering from heart failure due to DCM.

Strong sugar tolerance and high bioethanol yield of yeast under high-gravity fermentation have caused great attention in the bioethanol industry. In this study, Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats Cas9 (CRISPR-Cas9) technology was used to knock out S. cerevisiae GPD2, FPS1, ADH2, DLD3, ERG5, NTH1, and AMS1 to construct engineering strain S.

The analysis of STR mixture profiles derived from mixed DNA samples plays a critical role in criminal investigations and legal proceedings. In this article, we present SMART, a novel software developed within the fully continuous model framework to analyze STR mixture profiles. SMART incorporates the peak height model, stutter model, drop-in/drop-out model, and population genetics model, offering various functionalities such as calculating likelihood ratios (LR), resolving genotypes of individual contributors, and performing direct database searches using mixed DNA profiles.

The effects of holding time and Si on the content, shape size and structure of TiAlLa phase in Al-Ti-La intermediate alloy were investigated by an X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. The results show that the volume fraction and aspect ratio of TiAlLa phase in Al-Ti-La intermediate alloy decrease significantly, from 21% and 2.3 without Si addition to 4% and 2.

Objectives: Although studies have shown that work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are common and continue to be a major source of disability and work time loss, there are few reports about elbow WMSDs. The aim of this study was to explore the prevalence and associated factors of elbow WMSDs.

Methods: The valid questionnaires of 57501 workers from 15 different industries nationwide were collected and the c2 test and logistic regression analysis were applied to reveal the prevalence and risk factors of elbow WMSDs.

We investigate collective dynamics in a binary mixture of programmable robots in experiments and simulations. While robots of the same species align their motion direction, interaction between species is distinctly nonreciprocal: species A aligns with B and species B antialigns with A. This nonreciprocal interaction gives rise to the emergence of collective chiral motion that can be stabilized by limiting the robot angular speed to be below a threshold.

Aflatoxin B is a highly carcinogenic and teratogenic substance mainly produced by toxin-producing strains such as Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasitic. The efficient decomposition of aflatoxin is an important means to reduce its harm to humans and livestock. In this study, Trametes versicolor aflatoxin B-degrading enzyme (TV-AFBD) was recombinantly expressed in Bacillus subtilis (B.

All-solid-state batteries (ASSBs) with a Li metal anode are expected to be one of the most promising energy storage systems to achieve high energy density. However, the interfacial instability between the Li metal anode and solid-state electrolyte (SSE) limits the rate capability and cycling stability of ASSBs. The main issue is the formation of voids at the Li/SSE interface during Li stripping due to the slow diffusion of Li within the bulk Li metal, then increasing internal cell resistance and inducing the formation of lithium dendrites.

Adaptation to variations in oxygen concentration is a conserved mechanism in all metazoans. Extensive studies have been focused on the roles of hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) in response to hypoxia. However, HIF1α is not conserved in all animals, and HIF2α and HIF3α are only observed in vertebrates.

Objective: The implantation of PMMA bone cement results in an immune response and the release of PMMA bone cement particles causes an inflammatory cascade. Our study discovered that ES-PMMA bone cement can induce M2 polarization of macrophages, which has an anti-inflammatory immunomodulatory effect. We also delved into the molecular mechanisms that underlie this process.

Background: The thermotolerant yeast is beneficial in terms of efficiency improvement of processes and reduction of costs, while Saccharomyces cerevisiae does not efficiently grow and ferment at high-temperature conditions. The sterol composition alteration from ergosterol to fecosterol in the cell membrane of S. cerevisiae affects the thermotolerant capability.

Group IIIA-VA metal sulfides (GMSs) have attracted increasing attention because of their unique Na-storage mechanisms through combined conversion and alloying reactions, thus delivering large theoretical capacities and low working potentials. However, Na diffusion within GMSs anodes leads to severe volume change, generally representing a fundamental limitation to rate capability and cycling stability. Here, monodispersed In S /nitrogen and sulfur co-doped carbon hollow microspindles (In S /NSC HMS) are produced by morphology-preserved thermal sulfurization of spindle-like and porous indium-based metal organic frameworks.
