Mucosal flap reconstruction can improve the long-term survival rate of patients with recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Mucosal flap reconstruction also increases the treatment-related risks of ear fullness and dysphagia. This matching study provides preliminary evidence for the use of mucosal flap reconstruction in salvage endoscopic nasopharyngectomy.

Purpose: To determine the effects of blood supply from internal carotid artery (ICA) on the surgical outcomes of primary juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) after transarterial embolization (TAE).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on primary JNA patients who underwent TAE and endoscopic resection in our hospital between December 2020 and June 2022. The angiography images of these patients were reviewed, and then they were divided into ICA + external carotid artery (ECA) feeding group and ECA feeding group according to whether the ICA branches were part of the feeding arteries.

Background: As a cancer stem cells (CSCs) surface marker, Lgr5 plays an important role in the signal transduction of cancer cells and is a potential biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. However, the expression and prognostic value of Lgr5 in recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rNPC) remains ambiguous.
Materials: We used RNA sequencing to screen differentially expressed mRNAs in eleven specimens of rNPC tissues and five fresh adjacent normal tissue samples and the CSC marker, Lgr5, was identified.

Background: The choice between endoscopic surgery and re-radiotherapy as the main treatment modality in patients with advanced recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rNPC) remains controversial. Therefore, in this study, we compared the efficacies of endoscopic surgery and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in patients with rNPC.
Methods: All patients with advanced rNPC (T3 and T4) who underwent salvage treatment were enrolled from January 2009 to December 2020.
Temporalis muscle flap (TMF) is widely used in traditional skull base surgery, but its application in endoscopic skull base surgery remains rarely reported. We aimed to investigate the surgical anatomy and clinical application of TMF for reconstruction of skull base defects after expanded endoscopic nasopharyngectomy. Nine fresh cadaver heads (18 sides) were used for endoscopic dissection at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the United States.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are single-stranded noncoding RNAs with covalent, closed-loop structures. They are characterized by high stability and abundance, are evolutionarily conserved, and exhibit tissue/developmental stage specificity.

Methods: We enrolled all rNPC patients with tumors invading the ICA, who underwent salvage endoscopic surgery. Using propensity scores to adjust for specific potential prognostic factors, a well-balanced cohort of 42 patients with limited rNPC was formed by matching each patient who underwent ICA embolization (study group) with one who did not (control group).
Background: Salvage endoscopic nasopharyngectomy has better survival prognosis and fewer complications in the management of early stage rNPC, compared to re-irradiation. However, the treatment modality of advanced recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rNPC) remains controversial. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the demographics, clinical outcomes, and prognostic factors associated with salvage endoscopic nasopharyngectomy in advanced rNPC.

The aim of this study was to establish the types of TEN for rNPC.
Materials And Methods: A total of 101 rNPC patients underwent TEN from January 2016 to April 2019 at the authors' institution.
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) act as competing endogenous RNAs, which are involved in the regulation of many types of cancers. They primarily function by sponging microRNAs (miRNAs) and influencing the expression of miRNA by target messenger RNA. However, the role of circRNAs in the progression of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remains largely unclear.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the demographics, treatment outcomes, and prognostic factors of salvage endoscopic nasopharyngectomy in recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 189 patients who underwent treatment for recurrent NPC from January 2006 to June 2018. The Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test were used to assess survival rates.
In pre-surgical patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNPs), positive findings on computed tomography (CT) scans and an exacerbation of symptoms are two possible factors that indicate surgery. However, the relationship between these factors remains unclear. Confirmed CRSwNP patients ready for sinus surgery were consecutively enrolled.

A concise, recyclable, and efficient process is presented for the preparation of ()-ketamine (esketamine, ()-) via classic resolution combined with the recycling of the undesired isomer. With commercially available ketone as the starting material, this procedure features three steps including (1) an unique hydroxylation-ring expansion rearrangement, (2) mild amination via methanesulfonate, and (3) chiral separation using -(+)-tartaric acid. The three simple steps are all performed in mild conditions and ()- tartrate is obtained in 99.
