Cell-free DNA as a biomarker for colorectal cancer: a retrospective analysis in patients before and after surgery.

This study was aimed at investigating the potential of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) as a biomarker for colorectal cancer prognosis. Sixty patients with colorectal cancer who had not undergone surgery were enrolled as study group. Their peripheral blood samples were collected, and peripheral blood of 30 healthy volunteers (control) was collected.

[Great role and position of emergency department in the prevention and control of infectious diseases].

The emergency department is not only the place of treating emergency and critically ill patients, but also the frontline of identification and treatment of infectious disease. To ensure the treatment of the acute and critical diseases and the safety of the hospital, the emergency department should be included in the prevention and control system of infectious diseases. Therefore, we should attach great importance to the role of emergency department in the prevention and control system of infectious diseases, by establishing standardized protocols of ward layout, treatment procedure, management and training.

Enhancing the Quality of Hierarchic Relations in the National Cancer Institute Thesaurus to Enable Faceted Query of Cancer Registry Data.

Purpose: To audit and improve the completeness of the hierarchic (or is-a) relations of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Thesaurus to support its role as a faceted system for querying cancer registry data.

Methods: We performed quality auditing of the 19.01d version of the NCI Thesaurus.

A solution to renewable hydrogen economy for fuel cell buses - A case study for Zhangjiakou in North China.

Fuel cell vehicles fueled with renewable hydrogen is recognized as a life-cycle carbon-free option for the transport sector, however, the profitability of the H pathway becomes a key issue for the FCV commercialization. By analyzing the actual data from the Zhangjiakou fuel cell transit bus project, this research reveals it is economically feasible to commercialize FCV in areas with abundant renewable resources. Low electricity for water electrolysis, localization of H supply, and curtailed end price of H refueling effectively reduce the hydrogen production, delivery and refueling cost, and render a chance for the profitability of refueling stations.

Impact of surgeon handedness in manual and robot-assisted total hip arthroplasty.

Background: The purpose of this study was to examine whether surgeon handedness could affect cup positioning in manual total hip arthroplasty (THA), and whether robot could diminish or eliminate the impact of surgeon handedness on cup positioning in robot-assisted THA.

Methods: Fifty-three patients who underwent bilateral robot-assisted THA and sixty-two patients who underwent bilateral manual THA between August 2018 and July 2019 in our institute were respectively analyzed in this study. When the difference between the bilateral anteversion and inclination was greater than 5°, the patient was regarded as having different cup positioning between bilateral THA.

SeizureBank: A Repository of Analysis-ready Seizure Signal Data.

Approximately 60 million people worldwide suffer from epileptic seizures. A key challenge in machine learning ap proaches for epilepsy research is the lack of a data resource of analysis-ready (no additional preprocessing is needed when using the data for developing computational methods) seizure signal datasets with associated tools for seizure data management and visualization. We introduce SeizureBank, a web-based data management and visualization system for epileptic seizures.

Point-prevalence surveys of hospital-acquired infections in a Chinese cancer hospital: From 2014 to 2018.

Background: Both hospital-acquired infection (HAI) and cancer represents major health concerns worldwide, but there is a paucity of data describing HAI in Chinese cancer patients. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the prevalence, causative agents, antimicrobial use and risk factors for HAI in a cancer hospital in Southwestern China.

Methods: We use the criteria of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China to define hospital-acquired infections.

Background: Robot-assisted total hip arthroplasty (THA) has the potential of improving cup positioning. However, there is an associated learning curve with robot. This study aimed to determine one surgeon's learning curve with robot-assisted THA and whether robot could achieve similar accuracy in cup positioning as manual THA.

A case of visceral leishmaniasis found by left oblique hernia: A case report.

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is an infectious disease caused by protozoa. Since sporadic cases of this disease are noted in non-endemic areas and are associated with a limited outbreak, the disease is easily overlooked. In addition, other illnesses exhibit similar symptoms.

Objective: Distant metastases are rarely observed in patients with initial pathologically proven benign follicular nodules of the thyroid. This study aimed to evaluate the clinicopathological features and independent variables associated with survival in such patients with distant metastases.

Methods: In total, 10,992 consecutive differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients treated with I after total or near-total thyroidectomy from 2000 to 2018 were retrospectively reviewed.

Background: There are few data on the prevalence of acquired drug resistance mutations (ADRs) in Hunan Province, China, that could affect the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Objectives: The main objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of acquired drug resistance (ADR) the epidemic characteristics of HIV-1-resistant strains among ART-failed HIV patients in Hunan Province, China.

Methods: ART-experienced and virus suppression failure subjects in Hunan between 2012 and 2017 were evaluated by genotyping analysis and mutations were scored using the HIVdb.

Maternal HIV infection and risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in Hunan province, China: A prospective cohort study.

This study described the prevalence of adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) in Chinese HIV-infected pregnant women, and examined the relationship between maternal HIV infection /HIV-related factors and APOs.This prospective cohort study was carried out among 483 HIV-infected pregnant women and 966 HIV-uninfected pregnant women. The HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected women were enrolled from midwifery hospitals in Hunan province between October 2014 and September 2017.

Long-term outcomes of endoscopic treatment for colorectal laterally spreading tumor: a large-scale multicenter retrospective study from China.

Background: Laterally spreading tumor (LST) is a type of precancerous lesion of colorectal cancer with high malignant potential. The present study aimed to evaluate long-term outcomes of endoscopic treatment for LST in Chinese patients.

Methods: This study was a retrospective review of data collected from 653 included patients with LST from six regional representative hospitals in China between January 2007 and January 2017.

The hornwort genome and early land plant evolution.

Hornworts, liverworts and mosses are three early diverging clades of land plants, and together comprise the bryophytes. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of the hornwort Anthoceros angustus. Phylogenomic inferences confirm the monophyly of bryophytes, with hornworts sister to liverworts and mosses.

LINC02499, a novel liver-specific long non-coding RNA with potential diagnostic and prognostic value, inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma cell proliferation, migration, and invasion.

Aim: Liver-specific non-coding RNAs have been reported to play crucial roles in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We investigated the possible biological performance of a novel liver-specific long non-coding RNA, LINC02499, in HCC.

Methods: The association between LINC02499 expression and HCC was evaluated based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases, and then confirmed in a HCC cohort by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.

Tailoring neoadjuvant chemotherapy for patients with breast cancer who have achieved pathologic complete response.

Background: We retrospectively examined whether different cycles of chemotherapy affected the prognosis of patients who achieved a pathologic complete response (pCR).

Methods: We reviewed data from patients who achieved pCR after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) between 2008 and 2018. In total, 286 patients were divided into three groups: group one (n=148, 52%) completed standard chemotherapy cycles before surgery, group two (n=81, 28%) did not complete standard chemotherapy cycles before surgery or received chemotherapy after surgery, and group three (n=57, 20%) did not complete standard chemotherapy cycles before surgery but completed them after surgery.

Cardamonin as a potential treatment for melanoma induces human melanoma cell apoptosis.

2',4'-dihydroxy-6'-methoxychalcone (cardamonin) is a natural compound with anti-proliferative effects on several cancer types including nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The effects of cardamonin on melanoma cells are unknown. The present study investigated the anti-proliferative effect of cardamonin on human melanoma cell lines (M14 and A375), and the underlying apoptosis inducing mechanisms.

Genome- Wide Analysis of the Nucleotide Binding Site Leucine-Rich Repeat Genes of Four Orchids Revealed Extremely Low Numbers of Disease Resistance Genes.

Orchids are one of the most diverse flowering plant families, yet possibly maintain the smallest number of the nucleotide-binding site-leucine-rich repeat () type plant resistance () genes among the angiosperms. In this study, a genome-wide search in four orchid taxa identified 186 genes. Furthermore, 214 genes were identified from seven orchid transcriptomes.

Lung Metastases From Papillary Thyroid Cancer With Persistently Negative Thyroglobulin and Elevated Thyroglobulin Antibody Levels During Radioactive Iodine Treatment and Follow-Up: Long-Term Outcomes and Prognostic Indicators.

The lung is the most frequent site of distant metastasis from differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). However, lung metastasis from papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) with persistently negative thyroglobulin (Tg) and elevated Tg antibody (TgAb) levels is an extremely rare entity, and the prognosis is therefore elusive. We investigated the clinical characteristics, long-term outcomes, and prognostic factors of lung metastases in PTC patients with persistently negative thyroglobulin (Tg) and elevated Tg antibody (TgAb) levels during radioactive iodine (I) treatment and follow-up.

Nesiritide in patients with acute myocardial infarction and heart failure: a meta-analysis.

Objective: This meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of nesiritide in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and heart failure.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from inception through December 2018. Studies including patients with AMI and heart failure who received nesiritide were identified.

Plastid phylogenomic data yield new and robust insights into the phylogeny of Cleisostoma-Gastrochilus clades (Orchidaceae, Aeridinae).

The Cleisostoma-Gastrochilus clades are among the most speciose and diverse groups of Asian orchids and are a taxonomically problematic group. Phylogenetic relationships among the genera of these clades have remained unresolved with traditional sequences from one or a few markers. We present large-scale phylogenomic data sets, incorporating complete chloroplast genome sequences from 53 species (including 41 species sequenced in this study), to compare plastome structure and to resolve the phylogenetic relationships of these clades.
