Background: The poor viability and paracrine function of transplanted mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) hamper their therapeutic efficacy in ischemic heart injury treatment. Protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) mediate arginine methylation and have important functions in cellular responses. However, the role of PRMTs in MSC-based therapies for ischemic heart injury remains unclear.

Evaluation of food texture is crucial for product development and quality control in the food industry. To objectively evaluate the texture, the methods to characterize the texture attributes by instruments become increasingly important. This review mainly introduces the advances of instrumental methods by rheology and tribology in food texture studies, with a focus on the instrumental applications in four complex texture attributes, including thickness, astringency, creaminess, and graininess.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxidative stress is prevalent in organisms, and excessive oxidative damage can trigger cell death. Bacteria have evolved multiple pathways to cope with adverse stress, including the regulation of the cell cycle. Previous studies show that non-lethal exposure to HO and mutations in antioxidant enzymes suppress replication initiation in .

With our bioinspired setup, friction and vibration signals were simultaneously acquired using the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel substrates fabricated with different parameters of surface roughness and thickness. Results showed that the feature parameters of friction coefficient and vibration amplitude were positively correlated to surface roughness, while substrate thickness had little effect on these features.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the associations between specific bacterial taxa of the gut microbiome and the development of aortic aneurysm diseases, utilizing Mendelian Randomization (MR) to explore these associations and overcome the confounding factors commonly present in observational studies.
Methods: Employing the largest available gut microbiome and aortic aneurysm Genome-Wide Association Study databases, including MiBioGen, Dutch Microbiome Project, FinnGen, UK Biobank, and Michigan Genomics Initiative, this study performs two-sample bidirectional MR analyses. Instrumental variables, linked to microbiome taxa at significant levels, were selected for identifying relationships with abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA), thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA), and aortic dissection (AD).

Background: This Mendelian randomization (MR) study aimed to explore the causal relationship between the genetic predisposition to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and aortic dissection (AD), and to assess associations with genetically predicted glycemic traits. The study sought to verify the inverse relationship between T2DM and AD using a more robust and unbiased method, building on the observational studies previously established.
Materials And Methods: The study employed a two-sample and multivariable MR approach to analyze genetic data from the DIAbetes Meta-ANalysis of Trans-Ethnic association studies (DIAMANTE) with 74,124 cases and 824,006 controls, and the Meta-Analyses of Glucose and Insulin-Related Traits Consortium (MAGIC) involving up to 196,991 individuals.
Listeria monocytogenes () is a foodborne pathogen that causes listeriosis in humans and other animals. Surface proteins with the LPXTG motif have important roles in the virulence of . Lmo0159 is one such protein, but little is known about its role in virulence, motility, and biofilm formation.

The p300/CBP-associated factor (PCAF) is one of the most important lysine acetyltransferases and is involved in various biological processes. However, the role of PCAF in AT and AT-mediated cardiac remodeling post-MI has not been determined.

The aim of this study was to describe the incidence and type of aberrant hepatic artery, and to compare differences in transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with vs without aberrant hepatic artery.
Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients with HCC who received TACE at the same intervention center between March 15, 2020 and December 31, 2022.

Developing highly active electrocatalysts for overall water splitting is of remarkable significance for industrial production of H. Herein, exceptionally active Fe(OH) modified ultra-small Ru nanoparticles on Ni(OH) nanosheets array (Fe(OH)-Ru/Ni(OH)) for both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are reported. The Fe(OH)-Ru/Ni(OH) nanosheets array prepared with Fe/Ru molar ratio of 5 only requires extremely low overpotentials of 61, 127 and 170 mV to reach current densities of 100, 500 and 800 mA cm in 1 M KOH, respectively, exceeding Pt/C catalyst (75, 160 and 177 mV).

The small RNA DsrA helps bacteria adapt to environments by binding to multiple targets, but its association with the cell cycle remains unclear. Detection by flow cytometry, we first found that the knockout of dsrA promoted replication initiation, and corresponding overexpression of DsrA inhibited replication initiation in Escherichia coli.

Root development and plasticity are assessed diverse endogenous and environmental cues, including phytohormones, nutrition, and stress. In this study, we observed that roots in model plant exhibited waving and oscillating phenotypes under normal conditions but lost this pattern when subjected to alkaline stress. We later showed that alkaline treatment disturbed the auxin gradient in roots and increased auxin signal in columella cells.

As the simulation system of human olfaction and gustation, IFSS has been widely used in the field of food with the characteristics of nondestructive, pollution-free, and real-time detection. This paper reviews the application of IFSS in the control of fermentation, ripening, and shelf life, and the potential in the identification of quality differences and flavor-producing microbes in fermented foods.

The Escherichia coli YfiF protein is functionally unknown, being predicted as a transfer RNA/ribosomal RNA (tRNA/rRNA) methyltransferase. We find that absence of the yfiF gene delays initiation of chromosome replication and the delay is reversed by ectopic expression of YfiF, whereas excess YfiF causes an early initiation. A slight decrease in both cell size and number of origin per mass is observed in ΔyfiF cells.
