Objective: The stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) quantifies the intensity of stress hyperglycemia by highlighting the rate of change in fasting blood glucose during stress. Several studies have validated the association of SHR with poor prognosis in cardiovascular disease. However, the value of SHR in diabetic patients with severe heart failure requiring ICU admission remains unclear.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCardiac arrest (CA) prevention continues to be a substantial hurdle for global public health. Although dyslipidemia and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) insufficiency are recognized contributing factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD), their causal relationship with CA risk is still uncertain. Here, we explored these correlations and pinpointed possible therapeutic targets for CA prevention though Mendelian randomization (MR).

p-phenoxyphenol (PhOP) is an endocrine-disrupting chemical commonly used as an industrial raw material. It can be released either as a monomer or as a metabolite from products containing PhOP. PhOP has been reported to have estrogenic activity, but its reproductive toxicity effect on males remains unclear.

However, the specific mechanisms underlying aberrant GSH metabolism in pancreatic cancer (PC) remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the prognostic significance of GSH metabolism-related genes in PC and to identify key molecular targets, thereby providing novel perspectives for targeted PC therapy.

Immune imbalance is the core pathophysiological mechanism of the deterioration of β-cell function driven by lipid metabolism disorders. Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) inflammatory signaling is a key pathway that mediates lipotoxic injury in β-cells, but the underlying mechanism needs to be further elucidated. Transmembrane protein 24 (TMEM24) is a key transporter that regulates pulsatile insulin secretion, but its pathophysiology in lipotoxicity remains unclear.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFluorene-9-bisphenol (BHPF), a widely recognized alternative to bisphenol A (BPA), has been increasingly used in a wide range of industries. However, despite numerous studies, the direct mechanism underlying its male reproductive toxicity remains poorly understood. Here, a BHPF-exposed mouse model was established to evaluate the effect of BHPF on male fertility.

This study aimed to analyse the efficacy and safety of the loop-assisted inversion and double suture technique for the treatment of gastric fundal subepithelial lesions. Consecutive patients with gastric fundal tumours who underwent the loop-assisted inversion and double suture technique at our centre between January 2023 and January 2024 were retrospectively assessed.

The molecular mechanisms through which glucolipotoxicity induces mitochondrial dysfunction remain poorly understood. In this study, we observed an upregulation of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) expression in osteoblasts subjected to glycolipotoxic conditions, which was associated with mitochondrial dysfunction.

It is still quite challenging to simultaneously and efficiently scavenge both pollutants due to their completely different physicochemical properties and the fierce competition between multi-pollutants faced by traditional adsorbents. In present work, a novel alginate-based aerogel microbead (GO/Fe-Ca-Alg) with specific sorption sites toward these two sorts of pollutants was fabricated via a 'multi-site coupling' strategy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOsteoporosis (OP) is a prevalent chronic bone metabolic disorder that affects the elderly population, leading to an increased susceptibility to bone fragility. Despite extensive research on the onset and progression of OP, the precise mechanisms underlying this condition remain elusive. The m6A modification, a prevalent form of chemical RNA modification, primarily regulates posttranscriptional processes, including RNA stability, splicing, and translation.

Platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), a transmembrane receptor, senses mechanical signals. The Src/STAT3 pathway plays a crucial role in the mechanotransduction network, concurrently triggering pyroptosis related inflammatory responses.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAstrocytes are abundant glial cells in the central nervous system (CNS) that play important roles in brain injury following cardiac arrest (CA). Following brain ischemia, astrocytes trigger endogenous neuroprotective mechanisms, such as fatty acid transport. Lipid droplets (LDs) are cellular structures involved in neutral lipid storage and play essential roles in many biological processes.

Antibiotic abuse has led to an increasingly serious risk of antimicrobial resistance, developing alternative antimicrobials to combat this alarming issue is urgently needed. Rhesus theta defensin-1 (RTD-1) is a theta-defensin contributing to broad-spectrum bactericidal activity via the mechanisms of membrane perturbation. Intriguingly, human defensin-6 (HD6), an enteric defensin secreted by Paneth cells without direct bactericidal effect, could self-assembled into fibrous networks to trap enteric pathogens for assistance of innate immunity.

We collected decidual specimens from RPL patients and controls to assess GRIM19 expression, activation phenotype, cytotoxic function, inflammatory cytokine secretion, and mitochondrial homeostasis in dNK cells. Furthermore, we established a GRIM19-knockout NK-92MI cell line and a GRIM19 ± C57BL/6J mouse model to investigate the relationship between GRIM19 downregulation and dNK immune dysregulation, ultimately contributing to pregnancy loss.

However, its reproductive toxicity and the underlying biological mechanism remain largely unknown. Recently, changes in the gut microbiota and metablome caused by environmental contaminant exposure and their potential impact on male reproductive health have been of great concern.

Background: 2-ethylhexyldiphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) was used widespread in recent years and it was reported to impair reproductive behaviors and decrease fertility in male Japanese medaka. However, whether EHDPP causes spermatogenesis disturbance remains uncertain.
Objectives: We aimed to study the male reproductive toxicity of EHDPP and its related mechanism.

Past studies have observed that BHPF induces multi-organ toxicity, however, whether it induces damage to male reproductive system and the specific mechanism remains unclear. In the present study, male mice were given 0, 2, 10 or 50 mg/kg/day of BHPF by gavage for 35 days to observe its effect on reproductive organ and sperm quality. The results indicated that BHPF decreased sperm count and sperm motility in a dose-dependent manner.
