Background: Calcified lumbar disc herniation (CLDH) is one specific type of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Currently, there are no uniform classification standards for different calcification degrees of herniated lumbar disc tissue. Percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) has been proved to exhibit great efficacy in treating LDH, but whether it can achieve satisfactory results in treating CLDH with different calcification remains unclear.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFollicular lymphoma (FL) is characterized by clinical, phenotypic, and genetic heterogeneity. Here, we conduct whole-genome sequencing on 131 Chinese FL samples and identify three clinically relevant genetic subtypes. These include C1, associated with favorable prognoses and enriched for BCL6-related translocations and mutations in the NOTCH/nuclear factor κB (NF-κB)/immune evasion pathways; C2, characterized by BCL2-IGH translocations and mutations in chromatin modifiers; and C3, associated with poorer prognosis, lacking BCL2-IGH/BCL6-related translocations but exhibiting more copy number variations.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) represents a complex endocrine disorder with profound detrimental effects on women's reproductive and metabolic health, yet the absence of specific pharmacotherapeutic interventions has resulted in a significant therapeutic gap. To elucidate the metabolic alterations in PCOS, we conducted a comprehensive targeted metabolomics analysis of plasma samples from healthy control mice and PCOS model mice, examining a panel of 197 metabolites spanning diverse metabolic classes. Our analysis revealed substantial metabolic differences between the groups, with organic acids, amino acids, and fatty acids emerging as the most abundant metabolite classes in both cohorts.

Liuwei Dihuang Decoction (LWDHD) has been clinically established as an effective treatment for CKD, demonstrating anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antifibrotic effects. However, the specific molecular mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effectiveness of LWDHD remain unknown.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFStretchable n-type conducting polymers are crucial for advancing high-performance optoelectronic and bioelectronic devices, yet their development lags significantly behind that of p-type counterparts due to the intrinsic challenge of harmonizing electrical conductivity with mechanical compliance. Herein, a novel strategy is reported to engineer a high-performance n-type conductive elastomer by synergistically blending the n-type polymer poly(benzodifurandione) (PBFDO) with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and modulating phase separation via the ionic liquid (IL) 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate. The resulting PBFDO/TPU/IL composites (PBTI) achieve an unprecedented combination of n-type electrical conductivity exceeding 200 S cm¹, fracture elongation surpassing 200%, and robust operational stability, outperforming existing stretchable n-type conductive polymers.

This study proposes a novel algorithm for generating representative volume elements which mitigate microstructural inhomogeneities in fiber-reinforced composites. The algorithm integrates void characteristics obtained from micro-computed tomography to more accurate microstructure models. Based on these models, the effects of void content, spatial distribution, and void diameter on the mechanical behavior of CF/PEEK composites are systematically evaluated using finite element analysis and experimental validation.

Optimization of endometrial preparation protocols is mandatory to improve live birth rate and obstetric and perinatal outcomes. In the Comparison of Endometrial Preparation Protocols for Frozen Embryo Transfer (COMPETE) trial, our primary objective is to evaluate whether natural cycles (NCs) lead to a higher live birth rate after the first FET cycle compared to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) cycles in women with a regular ovulatory cycle.

Sensitive detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from peripheral blood can serve as an effective tool in the early diagnosis and prognosis of cancer. Many methods based on modern object detectors were proposed in recent years for automatic abnormal cells detection in slide images. Although the modes of these methods can also be applied to the CTCs detection, several practical difficulties lead to suboptimal performance of them, such as accurate capture of CTCs in a large number of mixed cells and identification of CTCs and CTC-like cells with similar visual characteristics.

Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy and screw placement accuracy of robot artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted percutaneous screw fixation and conventional C-arm-assisted percutaneous screw fixation (manual placement) in the treatment of thoracolumbar single-segment fractures without neurological symptoms.
Methods: This study is a single-center retrospective analysis involving patients with thoracolumbar single-segment fractures without neurological symptoms. Patients were divided into Group A (robotic AI-assisted placement) and Group B (manual placement).
The 2022 World Health Organization Classification of Haematolymphoid tumours classifies follicular lymphoma grades 1-2 (FL1-2) and grade 3A (FL3A) as classic follicular lymphoma (cFL) and reclassifies grade 3B (FL3B) as follicular large B-cell lymphoma (FLBL), without addressing cases of patients with concurrent FL and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (FL/DLBCL). However, genetic information on FL histologic grading remains limited, and the latest classification lacks sufficient evidence to resolve whether these subgroups represent single or multiple distinct biological entities. This study analyzed clinical data from 831 patients, whole-exome sequencing (WES) from 149 patients, and transcriptome sequencing from 63 patients to explore differences among FL1-2, FL3A, FL3B, and FL/DLBCL.

Background: The accurate diagnosis of thyroid nodules represents a critical and frequently encountered challenge in clinical practice, necessitating enhanced precision in diagnostic methodologies. In this study, we investigate the predictive efficacy of distinguishing between benign and malignant thyroid nodules by employing traditional machine learning algorithms and a deep transfer learning model, aiming to advance the diagnostic paradigm in this field.
Methods: In this retrospective study, ITK-Snap software was utilized for image preprocessing and feature extraction from thyroid nodules.
Ancient capital culture, red culture, Beijing-style culture, and innovation culture together constitute the capital's cultural system of China and support Beijing's position as the Chinese cultural center. In order to better help the cultural construction of the capital, Beijing, and to find some common and reasonable ways to reconcile the complex urban cultural system, this paper is based on the Weibo data of Beijing in 2019, takes the BERT pre-training model and the newer topic model "BERTopic" as the tools, combines the text content, spatial layout, and sentiment analysis methods, and explores the public perception of four types of capital culture in Beijing. The results reveal that: (1) Although the perception level of Dongcheng, Xicheng, Haidian and Chaoyang core areas is much higher than that of remote areas, the sentiment feedback of remote areas is better than that of the former; (2) A type of culture actively introduces other cultural types or even foreign cultural elements in the system, which helps it form a unique cultural attraction.

In this study, a strategy of targeting bacteria is proposed to address this challenge. For this purpose, a methacrylated gelatin composite hydrogel containing zinc ion and D-type cysteine-modified polydopamine nanoparticles (PZC) is developed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFRepair of infectious bone defects remains a serious problem in clinical practice owing to the high risk of infection and excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) during the early stage, and the residual bacteria and delayed Osseo integrated interface in the later stage, which jointly creates a complex and dynamic microenvironment and leads to bone non-union. The melatonin carbon dots (MCDs) possess antibacterial and osteogenesis abilities, greatly simplifying the composition of a multifunctional material. Therefore, a multifunctional hydrogel containing MCDs (GH-MCD) is developed to meet the multi-stage and complex repair needs of infectious bone injury in this study.
