ASAS recommendations on reporting axial spondyloarthritis clinical trials.

Objectives: This study aims to develop recommendations on reporting baseline features and outcomes from axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) clinical trials based on the recently updated instrument set of the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society (ASAS) core outcome set (COS).

Methods: A steering group (SG) convened a workgroup (WG), consisting of 13 ASAS members including rheumatologists, methodologists, epidemiologists, and 2 Young ASAS members. Recommendations on reporting axSpA trials baseline features and outcomes were developed in 3 steps: (1) the SG identified relevant baseline features from key axSpA clinical trials and formulated a proposal on how outcomes related to the instruments in the ASAS COS should be presented.

Objective: To quantify C-arm-registered radiation exposure during ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided spinal interventional pain management in dogs, and to measure operator-based radiation levels to identify discrepancies between delivered and received dose.

Study Design: A retrospective observational study.

Animals: A total of 82 canine spinal interventional pain management procedures performed at a single referral institution.

Metabolic and microbial responses of Ceratitis capitata to essential oil-based nano-emulsions: Implications for pest management.

Essential oils (EOs) are a promising alternative to conventional pesticides, but some challenges like high volatility, poor water solubility, and rapid degradation limit their use in Integrated Pest Management (IPM). To overcome these limitations, this study aimed to develop garlic, eucalyptus, and clove EO-based nano-emulsions (EO-NEs) in a bait treatment format through the high-pressure microfluidization technique and investigated the biological activities against Ceratitis capitata. In addition, the adverse effects of the most promising nano-emulsion were evaluated towards a non-target parasitoid Anagaspis daci.

Background: Targeted bottom-up proteomics is of great interest for the straightforward, accurate, and sensitive measurement of specific protein biomarkers from surrogate peptide fragments. However, this approach typically relies on off-line enzymatic digestion with trypsin, a time-consuming step that may be inadequate for covering certain sequence regions containing important post-translational modifications (PTMs).

Results: In this study, we present an in-line enzymatic digestion strategy for the targeted bottom-up analysis of α-synuclein (α-syn), which is a protein biomarker of Parkinson's disease (PD).

Unraveling the Molecular Basis of Extracranial Glioblastoma Metastasis: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Glioblastoma (GB), IDH-wildtype (IDH-wt), is the most prevalent primary malignant brain neoplasm in adults. Despite adjuvant therapy, the prognosis for these tumors remains dismal, with a median survival of around 15-18 months. Although rare, extracranial metastases from GB are reported with increasing frequency, likely due to advancements in follow-up, treatments, and improved patient survival.

Management of recurrent venous thromboembolism during anticoagulant treatment in patients with cancer: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common complication in patients with cancer-associated VTE. Limited data are available on treatment, particularly in patients receiving direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). We aimed to evaluate current management strategies and outcomes in patients with cancer and recurrent VTE during treatment with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) or DOACs.

Analysis of factors associated with post-vitrectomy cataract formation in phakic patients undergoing vitrectomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

Introductions And Objectives: This study assesses risk factors for developing cataracts after vitrectomy with tamponade for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in phakic patients and explores the potencial causal relationship between RRD surgery and the development of cataracts.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective study analysing the medical records of patients undergoing RRD surgery between 2012 and 2020 (9 years) at Donostia University Hospital (HUD). We collected data on the date of phacoemulsification surgery after vitrectomy surgery for RRD, as well as the type of vitrectomy and patient characteristics.

A population-based screening program provides insights into the characteristics and behaviors of individuals who self-refer for gambling disorder.

Introduction: Since only around 10% of people with gambling disorder (GD) seek professional treatment or attend self-help groups, multiple strategies are needed to improve this rate. The proposal of the Behavioral Addictions Centre 'Adcom' (Madrid, Spain) is one of these strategies, a pioneering and innovative program aimed at the general population to identify people with addictions such as GD, in an attempt tp offer them appropriate evidence-based treatments.

Materials And Methods: We analyzed information obtained from the first 305 adults who voluntarily sought attention at Adcom for self-referred gambling, and conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional and observational study of this population.

Introduction And Objectives: Pulmonary embolism (PE) may debut as sudden death (SD) in young and middle-aged adults. This study aims to determine the epidemiological and clinicopathological characteristics involved in SD due to PE in this age group and the underlying risk factors.

Methods: Multicenter retrospective noncontrolled study based on forensic autopsies performed in individuals aged 12 to 49 years at 3 forensic pathology services in Spain (Valencia, Biscay, and Seville) over an 8-year period (2010-2017).

Treatment with radionuclide-labeled peptides in refractory meningiomas: updated review and clinical perspectives.

The use of theragnostics in nuclear medicine has significantly advanced, particularly peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) in neuroendocrine tumors. Meningiomas often overexpress somatostatin receptors (SSTR), making them potential candidates for PRRT. However, the lack of large-scale standardized trials limits its clinical application.

ESCMID workshop: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Medical Microbiology Diagnostics.

Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) offer significant potential to transform medical microbiology diagnostics, improving pathogen identification, antimicrobial susceptibility prediction and outbreak detection. To address these opportunities and challenges, the ESCMID workshop, "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Medical Microbiology Diagnostics", was held in Zurich, Switzerland, from June 2-5, 2025. The course featured expert lectures, practical sessions and panel discussions covering foundational ML concepts and deep learning architectures, data interoperability, quality control processes, model development and validation strategies.

Optimizing Linezolid Dosing for Nosocomial Urinary Tract Infections in Critically Ill Patients with Renal Impairment.

Background: This study characterized the urinary pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) of linezolid (LNZ) in critically ill patients with renal impairment and nosocomial multidrug-resistant Gram-positive urinary tract infections (UTIs). The aim was to address therapeutic challenges arising from limited treatment options and uncertain urinary excretion, to establish optimized dosing strategies.

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted in ICU patients with renal impairment.

MHC compatibility influences the interaction between different types of equine mesenchymal stem/stromal cells and the local immune response.

The allogeneic administration of equine mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) has numerous advantages over autologous therapy, but their interactions with the patient's immune system need to be further elucidated. These interactions can be influenced by factors such as the compatibility between donor-receptor for the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and by the MHC expression levels, which can change under different conditions like inflammatory exposure and chondrogeneic differentiation. In this study, we evaluated the local immune response induced by chondrogeneically differentiated (MSC-chondro), pro-inflammatory primed (MSC-primed) and basal (MSC-naïve) MSCs, and how this response changes the immunomodulatory and immunogenic profiles of MSCs in vivo.
