Background: Spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy by robotic surgery is a safe and feasible surgical technique. Currently, spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy represents an alternative to the classical distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy, in the case of benign and low-grade malignant diseases of the body or pancreas tail. The reasons for preserving the spleen are based on the reduction of postoperative complications, such as post-splenectomy infections, subphrenic abscess, portal thrombosis, pulmonary hypertension, thrombocytosis, and thromboembolism.

Copeptin, a stable glycopeptide derived from the precursor of arginine vasopressin (AVP), has emerged as a valuable surrogate biomarker for AVP due to its stability and ease of measurement. This narrative review explores the physiological role of copeptin, its utility as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in different kidney diseases, and its clinical relevance in renal tubular disorders. The clinical application of copeptin as a diagnostic biomarker is best established in the differential diagnosis of polyuria-polydipsia syndrome (PPS), distinguishing nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) from central diabetes insipidus (CDI) and primary polydipsia (PP).

Somatic embryogenesis (SE) is an in vitro mass propagation system widely employed in plant breeding programs. However, its efficiency in many forest species remains limited due to their recalcitrance. SE relies on the induction of somatic cell reprogramming into embryogenic pathways, a process influenced by transcriptomic changes regulated, among other factors, by epigenetic modifications such as DNA methylation, histone methylation, and histone acetylation.

Background The prognostic value of baseline visual emphysema scoring at low-dose CT (LDCT) in lung cancer screening cohorts is unknown. Purpose To determine whether a single visual emphysema score at LDCT is predictive of 25-year mortality from all causes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Materials and Methods In this prospective cohort study, asymptomatic adults aged 40-85 years with a history of smoking underwent baseline LDCT screening for lung cancer between June 2000 and December 2008.

The exceptional performance of ceria (CeO) in catalysis and energy conversion is fundamentally governed by its defect chemistry, particularly oxygen vacancies. The formation of each oxygen vacancy (V) is assumed to be compensated by two localized electrons on cations (Ce). Here, we show by combining theory with experiment that while this 1 V: 2Ce ratio accounts for the global charge compensation, it does not apply at the local scale, particularly in nanoparticles.

Background: Previous results from this phase 3 trial showed that progression-free survival among participants with previously untreated (epidermal growth factor receptor)-mutated advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was significantly improved with amivantamab-lazertinib as compared with osimertinib. Results of the protocol-specified final overall survival analysis in this trial have not been reported.
Methods: We randomly assigned, in a 2:2:1 ratio, participants with previously untreated -mutated (exon 19 deletion or L858R substitution), locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC to receive amivantamab-lazertinib, osimertinib, or lazertinib.

Echinocandins, which target the fungal β-1,3-glucan synthase (Fks), are essential for treating invasive fungal infections, yet resistance is increasingly reported. While resistance typically arises through mutations in Fks hotspots, emerging evidence suggests a contributing role of changes in membrane sterol composition due to mutations. Here, we present a clinical case of () in which combined mutations in and , but not alone, appear to confer echinocandin resistance.
