The aim of this study was to compare the compressive forces generated by Dynamic Compression Angle-Stable Interlocking Nail (DCASIN) with those of traditional Dynamic Compression Plates (DCP) and Locking Compression Plates (LCP) using synthetic diaphyseal bone models (SDBM). Three groups were established based on the fixation method (G-DCASIN, G-DCP, and G-LCP), with implants fixed to SDBM simulating a transverse fracture, comprising 10 repetitions per group. A strain-gauge load cell was positioned in the SDBM gap to measure compressive forces in kilograms, recorded 30 s after the completion of each group-specific compression technique.

This study investigated the association between energy and macronutrient intake and bone health in 63 adolescents of both sexes who participated in volleyball, track and field, or swimming. Bone mineral content (BMC) and density (BMD) of the total body less head (TBLH), lumbar spine (L1-L4), and femoral neck were assessed using DXA. Bone geometry parameters, including cross-sectional area (CSA), cross-sectional moment of inertia (CSMI), and section modulus, were estimated.

: Bone tissue undergoes continuous remodeling, and imbalances in this process can lead to osteometabolic disorders, such as osteoporosis. Thus, bioactive compounds, like lycopene (LYC), have been investigated for their potential protective effects in bone health. This systematic review (SR) aimed to evaluate the effects of LYC supplementation on bone tissue.

Local anesthesia is essential for most dental procedures, but its parenteral administration is often painful. Topical anesthetics are commonly used to minimize local anesthesia pain; however, commercial formulations fail to fully prevent the discomfort of local anesthetic injection. We developed and characterized a novel lidocaine and epinephrine co-loaded liquid crystalline precursor system (LCPS) for topical anesthesia.

Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma (PPAR-γ) plays important anti-inflammatory roles, including in periodontitis. This systematic review with a meta-analysis compiles evidence on the transcriptional and translational levels of PPAR-γ in clinical and experimental periodontitis studies, alongside functional enrichment and PPAR-γ interaction network analyses. Electronic searches were conducted in six databases for publications up to February 2024.

Postpartum metritis in dairy cows compromises reproductive performance and leads to substantial economic losses. This study investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying metritis by integrating high-throughput circulating microRNA (miRNA) profiling with systems-level bioinformatics. Previously, 30 differentially expressed miRNAs, 16 upregulated and 14 downregulated, were identified in metritis-affected cows compared to healthy controls.

Dermatophytes are keratinophilic filamentous fungi that cause dermatophytosis, and the main etiological agents can be anthropophilic and zoophilic. Several virulence factors are involved in the pathogenesis of dermatophytosis, including the formation of fungal biofilms. In this context, three-dimensional (3D) models, such as spheroids and reconstructed human skin (RHS), have gained prominence, as they more accurately emulate fungus-host interactions, closely resembling physiological conditions.

Millions of healthcare professionals are occupationally exposed to waste anesthetic gases (WAGs) worldwide; however, their effect on DNA methylation is unknown. Thus, for the first time, global DNA methylation analysis was performed in addition to the comet assay and gene expression analysis in this case-control study to reveal possible molecular alterations associated with WAG exposure. A total of 86 participants were included (43 healthcare professionals exposed to WAGs and 43 matched-controls).

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of low and high-concentrated bleaching gels in both at-home and in-office techniques and their effects on enamel properties.
Methods: Bovine enamel/dentin specimens were randomly allocated to five groups (n=12): deionized water (negative control - DW), 6% hydrogen peroxide (6HP), 40% hydrogen peroxide (40HP), 10% carbamide peroxide (10CP), and 45% carbamide peroxide (45CP). For 6HP and 40HP, the gel was applied 3x20 minutes in 1 day.

Despite being one of the largest intrauterine tissues in surface area, the fetal membrane that lines the intrauterine cavity is often overlooked, forgotten, or misidentified in clinical and basic science research. The feto-maternal interface is comprised of the fetal membrane (fetal component) and decidua parietalis (maternal component), which lines the intrauterine cavity and provides essential mechanical, immune, hormonal, and transport support to maintain pregnancy. Fetal membrane plays an important role in triggering and regulating labor via complex signaling cascades.

Background: Chronic pain is a global health problem frequently associated with psychopathologies such as anxiety and depression, with a higher prevalence in women. However, most of the preclinical studies have used male animals as experimental subjects, highlighting the importance of studies that consider sex as a biological factor modulating the responses related to chronic pain. The experience of high social stress can maintain and exacerbate chronic pain.

Introduction: Obesity is a risk factor for the development of many chronic diseases, and, consequently, it is associated with an increase in the use of health services. On the other hand, practicing physical activity reduces healthcare costs. However, the long-term roles of physical activity and obesity in healthcare costs are not well explored in the literature.

Zika virus (ZIKV) is an emerging arbovirus, and its infection is often asymptomatic or mild; however, it can lead to severe neurological disorders. Currently, there are no approved treatments or vaccines for ZIKV, highlighting the urgent need to explore potential therapeutic options. In this study, we evaluated the antiviral activity of a novel synthetic peptide (GA-peptide) against ZIKV in vitro.

Background: Peri-implantitis, an inflammatory condition occurring in the supportive tissues, is triggered by a dysbiotic biofilm that grows on implant and/or abutment surfaces. Consequently, the entire surface becomes a notorious culprit, fostering bacterial adhesion that might lead to progressive loss of supporting bone. To combat peri-implantitis, research groups worldwide have diligently pursued the development of new antimicrobial coatings.

: Inflammatory breast carcinoma (IBC) is an aggressive and rare neoplasm, accounting for 1-5% of all breast cancers. Toll-like receptor type 4 (TLR4) and Advanced Glycation End Products Receptor (AGER/RAGE) have been implicated in breast cancer, and have been shown to promote tumor growth, metastasis, and resistance to therapy by modulating the tumor microenvironment and inflammatory pathways. However, the role of TLR4 and AGER in IBC has not been elucidated.

Staphylococcal exfoliative toxins (ETs) are serine proteases that cleave desmoglein 1 (Dsg1), a protein critical for epidermal integrity, leading to severe skin conditions. While the specificity of ETs for Dsg1 has been partially studied, the molecular determinants of ET-Dsg1 recognition remain unclear. In this study, we used phage display biopanning and computational modeling to map the interaction between ETs and Dsg1.
