Objective: Many individuals living in precarious housing or homelessness have multimorbid illnesses, including substance use, psychiatric, and neurological disorders. Movement disorders (MDs) associated substance use are amongst the poorly studied subtopics of drug-induced MDs. The aim of the present study was, therefore, to determine the proportion affected and severity of different signs of MDs, as well as their associations with substance use in a community-based sample of precariously housed and homeless individuals.

GSAs typically refer to student-led, teacher-supported school clubs that serve youth of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. This study investigated the relationship between students' awareness of school-based GSAs and their bullying experiences, mental health, self-determination, and relationships at school and home.

Experiences of new tenure-track PhD-prepared faculty: a scoping review.

The purpose of this scoping review was to assess the state of the literature concerning the experiences of new PhD-prepared tenure-track faculty, with a keen interest in nursing faculty. Effective recruitment and retention strategies for new nursing academic faculty need to be found and implemented. A literature review based on Arksey and O'Malley's five-stage framework for scoping reviews was undertaken.

The Information-Seeking Behavior and Unmet Knowledge Needs of Older Medicinal Cannabis Consumers in Canada: A Qualitative Descriptive Study.

Introduction: Older Canadians (age 60+) are increasingly using cannabis to treat their health problems, but little is known regarding how they learn about medicinal cannabis. This study explored the perspectives of older cannabis consumers, prospective consumers, healthcare professionals, and cannabis retailers on older adults' information-seeking behavior and unmet knowledge needs.

The Influence of Social Media on Alcohol Consumption of Mothers of Children and Adolescents: A Scoping Review of the Literature.

Alcohol misuse is a common problem in many countries, where alcohol is often portrayed as a fun and interactive coping strategy for mothers to manage the demands of motherhood. Social media platforms have established themselves as a popular forum for mothers to share information and create an environment in which mothers may be exposed to and influenced by alcohol-related content. Given the increased social acceptance and normalization of drinking among mothers, especially during the recent pandemic, a critical analysis of social media influences on alcohol behaviours and consumption is warranted.

A molecularly imprinted electrochemical microneedle sensor for multiplexed metabolites detection in human sweat.

This article demonstrates an array of inexpensive molecularly imprinted microneedle platforms for the multiplexed electrochemical detection of pH, epinephrine, dopamine, and lactate biomarkers in human sweat. The multiplexed sensors were fabricated via layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microneedle platform coated with a conductive PDMS/carbon nanotube (CNT)/cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) composite (PDMS/CNT/CNC@PDMS). The pH sensor was comprised of a pH-responsive polyaniline (PANI)/CNT/CNC/silver nanoparticle (AgNP) composite layer.

Studies are showing that urban community gardening can improve people's psychological and physiological health in myriad ways. Community gardens increase social capital, provide opportunities for altruism, and create accessible and sustainable food sources in urban environments. The purpose of this study was to explore the mental, social, and physical health benefits of participation in an urban community garden in Edmonton, Canada.

The Lived Experiences of Spousal Bereavement and Adjustment Among Older Chinese Immigrants in Calgary.

Spousal bereavement poses considerable challenges to adults in late life. Some populations, such as older immigrants, may experience heightened negative outcomes as a consequence of spousal bereavement, due to migratory stress and social isolation. Spousal bereavement is culturally embedded as it is related to cultural beliefs and attitudes concerning death and family relationships.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Muslim older immigrants in Edmonton, Alberta: A community-based participatory research project with a local mosque.

Objective: Older Muslim immigrants experience multiple vulnerabilities living in Canada. This study explores the experiences of Muslim older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic to identify ways to build community resilience as part of a community-based participatory research partnership with a mosque in Edmonton, Alberta.

Methods: Using a mixed-methods approach, check-in surveys (n = 88) followed by semi-structured interviews (n = 16) were conducted to assess the impact of COVID-19 on older adults from the mosque congregation.

Left Cerebellar Lesions may be Associated with an Increase in Spatial Neglect-like Symptoms.

Each cerebellar hemisphere projects to the contralateral cerebral hemisphere. Previous research suggests a lateralization of cognitive functions in the cerebellum that mirrors the cerebral cortex, with attention/visuospatial functions represented in the left cerebellar hemisphere, and language functions in the right cerebellar hemisphere. Although there is good evidence supporting the role of the right cerebellum with language functions, the evidence supporting the notion that attention and visuospatial functions are left lateralized is less clear.

Purpose: Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors (ATRT) of the central nervous system (CNS) are rare tumors with a poor prognosis and variable use of either focal or craniospinal (CSI) radiotherapy (RT). Outcomes on the prospective Pediatric Proton/Photon Consortium Registry (PPCR) were evaluated according to RT delivered.

Methods: Pediatric patients receiving RT were prospectively enrolled on PPCR to collect initial patient, disease, and treatment factors as well as provide follow-up for patient outcomes.

Text4PTSI: A Promising Supportive Text Messaging Program to Mitigate Psychological Symptoms in Public Safety Personnel.

Background: Public safety personnel experience various mental health conditions due to their work's complex and demanding nature. There are barriers to seeking support and treatment; hence, providing innovative and cost-effective interventions can help improve mental health symptoms in public safety personnel.

Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the impact of Text4PTSI on depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress-related symptoms, and the resilience of public safety personnel after six months of providing supportive text message intervention.

Examining behavioural test sensitivity and locomotor proxies of anxiety-like behaviour in zebrafish.

This study assessed the sensitivity of four anxiety-like behaviour paradigms in zebrafish: the novel tank dive test, shoaling test, light/dark test, and the less common shoal with novel object test. A second goal was to measure the extent to which the main effect measures are related to locomotor behaviours to determine whether swimming velocity and freezing (immobility) are indicative of anxiety-like behaviour. Using the well-established anxiolytic, chlordiazepoxide, we found the novel tank dive to be most sensitive followed by the shoaling test.

Activation of Human CD8+ T Cells with Nitroso Dapsone-Modified HLA-B*13:01-Binding Peptides.

Previous studies have shown that cysteine-reactive drug metabolites bind covalently with protein to activate patient T cells. However, the nature of the antigenic determinants that interact with HLA and whether T cell stimulatory peptides contain the bound drug metabolite has not been defined. Because susceptibility to dapsone hypersensitivity is associated with the expression of HLA-B*13:01, we have designed and synthesized nitroso dapsone-modified, HLA-B*13:01 binding peptides and explored their immunogenicity using T cells from hypersensitive human patients.

A Hybrid Stainless-Steel SPME Microneedle Electrode Sensor for Dual Electrochemical and GC-MS Analysis.

A mechanically robust in-tube stainless steel microneedle solid phase microextraction (SPME) platform for dual electrochemical and chromatographic detection has been demonstrated. The SPME microneedle was fabricated by layer-by-layer (LbL) in-tube coating, consisting of carbon nanotube (CNT)/cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) film layered with an electrically conductive polyaniline (PANI) hydrogel layer (PANI@CNT/CNC SPME microneedle (MN)). The PANI@CNT/CNC SPME MN showed effective analysis of caffeine by GC-MS with an LOD of 26 mg/L and excellent precision across the dynamic range.
