Introduction: Delirium is a prevalent neuropsychiatric disorder in the intensive care unit (ICU), associated with poorer health outcomes, including extended duration of mechanical ventilation, prolonged ICU stays, and persistent or long-term cognitive impairment. Substantial evidence has indicated that the frequency, duration and severity of delirium during hospitalisation are significant risk factors for cognitive dysfunction in patients after ICU discharge. While existing studies have investigated the association between ICU delirium and subsequent cognitive outcomes, their analytical approaches have predominantly employed conventional longitudinal methods.

Background: This randomized controlled trial investigated the therapeutic effects of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) on insomnia, negative emotions, and neurotransmitter levels in patients undergoing methamphetamine (METH) withdrawal.

Methods: We enrolled 84 eligible patients from the Kangxin Hospital of Guizhou Province, China (August 2023-December 2024), randomly allocating them to TEAS (n = 42) or sham-TEAS (n = 42) groups. The patients were divided into a TEAS group of 42 cases and a sham-TEAS group of 42 cases according to the randomized, single-blind and control principle.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common inflammatory autoimmune disease. Previous studies have emphasized tolerogenic dendritic cells(tolDCs) could attenuate inflammatory lesions by inducing specific immune tolerance in RA animal models, but the mechanism still needs further investigation. This study focused on revealing the effects of tolDCs on the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway that mediates inflammation.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a relatively frequently diagnosed form of urological cancer that is highly malignant and associated with high rates of patient mortality. At present, there are few effective options for treating advanced cases of ccRCC, emphasizing the need to establish novel biomarkers and targets suitable for therapeutic intervention. SET domain bifurcated histone lysine methyltransferase 2 (SETDB2) belongs to the Su(var)3-9 subfamily of methyltransferases and has been linked to various forms of cancer, but the role it plays in ccRCC remains to be fully established.

MOE Medical Basic Research Innovation Center for Gut Microbiota and Chronic Diseases, Department of Cell Biology, Wuxi School of Medicine, Jiangnan University, Wuxi, Jiangsu, China.

The impact of polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) on the nervous system has been documented in the literature. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the activation of the epidermal growth factor receptor 4 (ErbB4) is crucial in neuronal injury and regeneration processes. This study investigated the role of targeted activation of ErbB4 receptor through a small molecule agonist, 4-bromo-1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (C11H7BrO3, E4A), in mitigating PS-MPs-induced neuronal injury.

Given the challenging circumstances of aging with disability, family caregivers (FGs) face significant strain. Resilience, however, is a crucial protective factor against adverse caregiving outcomes. The study thus aimed to determine the latent classes of resilience among FGs and examine how these classes are related to care burden and psychological distress.

Social dilemmas have been a popular research topic in the past 30 years, yet there is still a lack of interdisciplinary reviews. This study represents the first attempt to conduct a bibliometric analysis of social dilemma research over the past 30 years, aiming to identify the research status, research hotspots, and future trends in this domain. We conduct an interdisciplinary analysis of 3630 articles from 1993 to 2023 using CiteSpace software.

Objective: To explore the impact of various exercise doses on depressive symptoms among hemodialysis patients and offer valuable guidance for the selection of optimal exercise doses in clinical practice settings.

Methods: A comprehensive systematic review was conducted across four major databases, namely, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library, covering the period from their inception until August 2024. Exercise interventions were classified based on adherence to American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommendations, dividing studies into groups with high and low/uncertain ACSM adherence.

Background: Neuronal senescence is a common pathological feature of various neurodegenerative diseases, with ferroptosis playing a significant role. This study aims to investigate the role of ErbB4 receptor activation in preventing D-Galactose (D-gal)-induced neuronal senescence.

Methods: Mice subjected to D-gal-induced aging were administered a small molecule ErbB4 receptor agonist (E4A), identified via virtual screening, melatonin, or a combination of both.

Background: Human kinesin family member 11 (KIF11) plays a vital role in regulating the cell cycle and is implicated in the tumorigenesis and progression of various cancers, but its role in endometrial cancer (EC) is still unclear. Our current research explored the prognostic value, biological function and targeting strategy of KIF11 in EC through approaches including bioinformatics, machine learning and experimental studies.

Methods: The GSE17025 dataset from the GEO database was analyzed via the limma package to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in EC.

Rural Revitalization (RR) is a key national strategy in China aimed at sustainable rural development and has gained significant attention. Given the unique characteristics of different villages, understanding differentiated paths to achieve RR is essential. This study introduces a new "5I Framework" (INDUS-INHAB-INDOC-INFRA-INCOM) to assess RR's overall development status (ODS) and differentiated paths.

School of Business, Shanghai Dianji University, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

This study offers new insights into college students' health education (CSHE) regarding its research status, hot spots, and trends by conducting a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of this field in the past decade (2014 to 2024). Specifically, we analyzed publication trends and used the bibliometric method with CiteSpace software to explore collaborative networks, detailed co-citation status, and co-occurrence dynamics based on 1358 Web of Science Core Collection articles. Our results indicate increased relevant publications and the collaboration networks show complex institutional and regional partnerships.

  • Primary liver cancer is a highly lethal type of cancer, and traditional treatments have limitations; minimally invasive radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is gaining attention for its potential benefits.
  • This study compares the efficacy and safety of RFA with traditional surgery (TS) for small liver cancer by analyzing data from various medical databases, covering research between 2008 and 2023.
  • The findings indicate that while TS offers better long-term survival rates, RFA has lower complication rates, suggesting it may be a safer option despite its limitations in extending life.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how aging affects pituitary function, particularly the production of prolactin (PRL), and suggests that neuregulin 1 (Nrg1) plays a role in this process.
  • Analysis from the GEPIA database showed a positive correlation between TRPM8 expression and PRL levels in normal human pituitary tissues, indicating that TRPM8 might help regulate pituitary aging by influencing PRL production.
  • Treatment with Nrg1 delayed cellular aging in lactotrophs and promoted PRL secretion, while melatonin enhanced this effect by activating Nrg1/ErbB4 signaling and increasing TRPM8 expression.

In contrast to prior findings that have illustrated the conversion of non-neuronal cells into functional neurons through the specific targeting of polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1 (PTBP1), accumulated evidence suggests the impracticality of inducing neuronal transdifferentiation through suppressing PTBP1 expression in pathological circumstances. Therefore, the present study explored the effect of knocking down PTBP1 under physiological conditions on the transdifferentiation of mouse hippocampal neuron HT22 cells and mouse astrocyte (MA) cells. A total of 20 µM negative control small interfering (si)RNA and siRNA targeting PTBP1 were transfected into HT22 and MA cells using Lipo8000 for 3 and 5 days, respectively.
