Understanding how interactions among microevolutionary forces generate genetic population structure of exploited species is vital to the implementation of management policies that facilitate persistence. Pollinator health risks from long-lasting neonicotinoid insecticides like imidacloprid has primarily focused on commercially managed, cavity-nesting bees in the genera Apis, Bombus, and Osmia. We expand these assessments to include 12 species of native and non-native crop pollinators of differing levels of body size, sociality, and floral specialization. Bees were collected throughout 2016 and 2017 from flowering blueberry, squash, pumpkin, sunflower and okra in south Mississippi, USA.

The Atlantic Sharpnose Shark, (Richardson, 1836), is the most common small coastal requiem shark in the north-central Gulf of Mexico, USA. Despite this fact, little is known about the dental variation within this taxon. To help rectify this shortcoming, we examined 126 male and female jaws sets across all maturity stages to document the various types of heterodonty occurring in the dentition of this taxon.

Along the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) coast, natural resource managers continually struggle with managing coastal uplands due to front-end costs, prolonged maintenance, and habitat-specific ecological needs. Prescribed fire, mechanical removal, and chemical treatments are common habitat management techniques used to remove invasive species, clear understory, and achieve other management goals. However, rapid development and changing climate exacerbate the difficulty in using these techniques.

Commercial shrimpers frequently encounter marine debris in their nets, resulting in economic impacts. Currently, no information existed on the spatial and temporal distribution of marine debris that shrimpers encounter and the subsequent economic impact on commercial shrimping. Due to fishery-tailored gear, shrimpers are often affected by benthic marine debris, specifically derelict crab traps. To alleviate the impacts on the commercial shrimping industry in the Mississippi Sound, a team of natural resource professionals and stakeholders developed a derelict crab trap removal incentive program for commercial shrimpers. In three years, this program led to the removal of 2904 derelict crab traps from the north-central Gulf of Mexico at a total average cost of $35,595 per year to implement the program, or $53 per derelict crab trap.

Increasing concern about the impacts of shark depredation, and how it intersects with the broader context of fisheries management, has driven recent research in this area, especially in Australia and the United States. This review synthesises these recent advances and provides strategic guidance for researchers aiming to characterise the occurrence of depredation, identify the shark species responsible, and test deterrent and management approaches to reduce its impacts.

This study investigated the changes in the structure and properties of soybean protein after hydrolysis using two types of hybrid nanoflowers (alcalase@Cu3(PO4)2•3H2O (ACHNs) and dispase@Cu3(PO4)2•3H2O (DCHNs)) and examined the basic properties and oxidative stability of hydrolyzed soybean protein emulsions. The formations of the two hybrid nanoflowers were first determined using a scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and Fourier infrared spectroscopy. The structure and functional properties of soybean protein treated with hybrid nanoflowers were then characterized.

Significant efforts have been dedicated to mitigating this globally relevant issue. This study investigated the effects of microwave modification, alkali polyphenol (ferulic acid) covalently combined modification, and microwave-alkali polyphenol covalently combined modification on the gel properties of soy protein emulsions. The results showed that the properties of soy protein emulsions were improved significantly by the three modification methods. After three kinds of modification, the viscoelasticity of soy protein emulsion gel increased, and a gel system with stronger elasticity was formed.

Formed at the confluence of marine and fresh waters, estuaries experience both the seaside pressures of rising sea levels and increasing storm severity, and watershed and precipitation changes that are shifting the quality and quantity of freshwater and sediments delivered from upstream sources. Boating, shoreline hardening, harvesting pressure, and other signatures of human activity are also increasing as populations swell in coastal regions.
