In this study, we incorporated hydroxyl (COF-JLU71) and methoxy (COF-JLU72) functional groups into the 2D framework of 4,4',4'',4'''-(1,9-dihydropyrene-1,3,6,8-tetrayl)tetrabenzaldehyde and synthesized two hydrophilic COFs by Schiff base condensation with 4,4'-(benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole-4,7-diyl) aniline. Their structural features were compared, and it was found that such modifications are beneficial for the construction of hydrogen bond networks, the tuning of photostructures, the enhancement of hydrophilicity, and the improvement of photocatalytic water splitting efficiency.

In this work, we report a facile strategy for synthesizing hydrophilic Gd(OH) sheets via a Gd-based interfacial precipitation reaction at the interface of organosilane-modified GdO nanoparticles and a cation exchange resin. This strategy, independent of the specific organosilane used, produces two-dimensional sheets with a distinct lamellar structure and excellent aqueous dispersibility. Characterization confirms the formation of Gd(OH) sheets with promising fluorescent and magnetic properties.

This study investigates how hydrophobic and hydrophilic modifications at the C-terminus of the base peptide, KFEFEFKFK (KbpK), affect the hydrogel macroscopic properties. By the incorporation of phenylalanine (F, hydrophobic) and lysine (K, hydrophilic) residues, four variants, KbpK-K, KbpK-F, KbpK-KF, and KbpK-FK, were designed and evaluated. pH-concentration phase diagrams and Fourier transform infrared confirmed clear links showing how peptide hydrophobicity and charge influence β-sheet formation and macroscopic phase behavior.

Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (or "SLIPS") can prevent bacterial surface fouling, but they do not inherently possess the means to kill bacteria or reduce cell loads in surrounding media. Past reports show that the infused liquids in these materials can be leveraged to load and release antimicrobial agents, but these approaches are generally limited to the use of hydrophobic agents that are soluble in the infused oily phases. Here, we report the design of so-called "proto-SLIPS" that address this limitation and permit the release of highly water-soluble (or oil-insoluble) agents.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) represent an environmentally benign energy storage alternative. However, the VO cathode suffers from limited cycling stability and rate capability due to structural instability, vanadium dissolution, and high desolvation energy caused by the large size of [Zn(HO)] deintercalation. Address these issues, we introduce a VO/VOPO (VOP) heterostructure that that reinforces the crystal structure to suppress vanadium dissolution and establishes a hydrophilic interface reducing the desolvation energy of Zn.

Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) is a widely used antibiotic with toxic and persistent residues, which poses potential health risks in aquatic environments. However, reliable and accurate detection is impeded by the nonspecific adsorption of interfering biomolecules in complex matrices. This study develops a molecularly imprinted photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor based on BiOS/BiWO with excellent selectivity and antifouling properties.
