Article Abstract

The use of vasopressors during the acute resuscitation of severely injured patients with trauma has long been controversial. Building on the concept of permissive hypotension, damage control resuscitation focuses on hemostatic transfusion of blood products to maintain perfusion pressures. However, targeting lower perfusion pressures while awaiting definitive hemorrhage control is contraindicated in some patient subpopulations and may be detrimental. Coupled with the shift towards a circulation-first approach to resuscitation, there is increasing interest in the use of vasopressors in the trauma bay. This narrative review aims to summarize the evidence behind trauma bay vasopressors and identify the potential role of vasoactive medications in the early phases of trauma care.

Pneumomediastinum refers to the accumulation of air in the mediastinum, which may occur due to trauma, esophageal perforation, or spontaneously. Although rare, dental procedures, especially those involving air turbine drills, can cause mediastinal emphysema. Most reported cases are related to tooth extraction; however, nonextraction procedures may also be associated with this complication.

Diagnosis and treatment of inguinal midline abdominal wall herniation of the urinary bladder in three domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus).

Inguinal herniation of the urinary bladder through the inguinal rings of domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) has been well-described in veterinary literature due to the inguinal rings remaining open throughout the lifespan of adult males. Midline body wall herniation has also been described in several veterinary species due to a variety of etiologies, including trauma, incisional dehiscence, and congenital anomalies. This phenomenon has not previously been described in rabbits.

A capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for detection of mosquito salivary protein-specific immunoglobulin E.

Mosquito saliva contains numerous distinct mosquito salivary proteins (MSPs) that mediate mosquito-host interactions. Repeated mosquito exposure can trigger allergic reactions, with MSP-specific IgE playing a central role. Current enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and immunoblotting methods for detecting MSP-specific IgE suffer from interference by much more abundant MSP-specific IgG, leading to low sensitivity.

Risk factors for pneumonitis after the combination treatment of immune checkpoint inhibitors and thoracic radiotherapy.

Background: The combination of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) has played a significant role in the improvement of tumor therapy, but the increased incidence of pneumonitis has greatly limited its application. To identify potential intervention targets, we analyzed risk factors for pneumonitis after combination therapy with ICIs and TRT.

Methods: Overall, 335 patients who received TRT and ICI therapy concurrently or sequentially were included in our study.

Background: Interleukin-22 is a cytokine involved in mucosal immunity, whereas interleukin-22 binding protein is a soluble receptor that can potently block interleukin-22. The role of interleukin-22 and interleukin-22 binding protein in trauma remains unclear. This study investigates whether IL-22 levels are associated with intubation in patients with trauma.
