Adipose tissue and the liver are known to regulate lipid metabolism through the storage, synthesis, and breakdown of lipids. However, the shared molecular factors affecting lipid metabolism in both tissues remain unclear. Plant Homeodomain Finger 2 (PHF2), one of the histone lysine demethylase7 family, serves as an epigenetic regulator in adipose tissue and E3 ubiquitin ligase in liver cancer. This study uses bioinformatics to analyze the role of PHF2 in lipid metabolism, focusing on its functions in adipose tissue and the liver. We utilized cDNA-chip microarrays, public clinical data, and in vitro three-dimensional cell culture models, validating our bioinformatics findings. Consequently, our analyses showed that PHF2 is positively involved in histone demethylase activity and adipogenesis in patients with obesity and moderate liver disease. However, PHF2 suppressed de novo lipogenesis and tumor progression in patients with liver cancer, enhancing immune cell infiltration in liver cancer. Furthermore, it was experimentally confirmed that PHF2 increases lipid accumulation in adipocytes but acts as a tumor suppressor in liver cancer cells. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive overview of PHF2, highlighting its biological importance.

Background: Primary liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), poses significant clinical challenges due to late-stage diagnosis, tumor heterogeneity, and rapidly evolving therapeutic strategies. While systematic reviews and meta-analyses are essential for updating clinical guidelines, their labor-intensive nature limits timely evidence synthesis.
Objective: This study proposes an automated literature screening workflow powered by large language models (LLMs) to accelerate evidence synthesis for HCC treatment guidelines.

Sorafenib, a clinically approved multityrosine kinase inhibitor, exhibits poor aqueous solubility, which limits its bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy. In this study, we introduce a solvent-directed self-assembly strategy to modulate the nanostructure of sorafenib without the use of external carriers or complex formulation techniques. In pure water, sorafenib forms large lamellar aggregates, whereas in 30% methanol-water mixtures, it self-assembles into uniform spherical particles approximately 450 nm in diameter.

This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning-based prediction model for 28-day mortality in AKI patients with liver cirrhosis using the MIMIC-IV database.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed data from 4,168 AKI patients, including 601 with concurrent liver cirrhosis, from the MIMIC-IV database.

Prior studies from our laboratory have shown that cancer cells exposed to vitamin D3 exhibited reduced proliferation in breast cancer cells due to the upregulation of p53 and downregulation of cyclin-D1. Furthermore, in mice, our group has demonstrated that administration of 125 µg/kg of vitamin D3 retarded the growth of EAC tumors. But, it is unknown whether vitamin D3 exerts similar anti-cancer effects against cell lines representing carcinomas of the liver, colon and rectum, cervix, and brain.

Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation (280-320 nm) has been recognized as a carcinogen since 1928, leading to sun exposure minimization. However, epidemiological studies suggest that sun exposure correlates with increased life expectancy and reduced incidence of cardiovascular diseases and certain cancers such as colon and endometrial cancer. UVB exposure also influences liver metabolism, protects against hepatocellular lipotoxicity, and affects metabolic health.
