Multimodal optical-materials are highly desirable due to their advantages in enhancing information security, though independent modulation is challenging, especially accurately controlling the orthogonal relationship between the structural coloration (SC) and fluorescence (FL) pattern. Herein, we report a strategy which combines programmable structural coloration and switchable circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) for multimodal information encryption. Using photomask with aligned grating, programmable periodic patterns are fabricated on a polydiacetylene (PDA) gel film, which produces image in tunable structural colors. Introducing a chiral fluorescence layer containing perovskite nanocrystals and twisted-stacking Ag nanowires (NWs) bilayers, which provides stimuli-responsive FL and CPL with high dissymmetry factor (g, up to 1.3). Importantly, the structural coloration information and FL patterns (including CPL pattern) can be independently modulated without mutual interference, even selectively concealed or exposed by varying microstructure design of the cross-linked PDA gel or by acetonitrile treatment.

An Ag-functionalized structural color hydrogel (Ag-SCH) sensor is constructed for colorimetric detection of glutathione (GSH). The hydrogel is prepared by using the coordination of Ag and 1-vinylimidazole (1-VI) as cross-linking network. GSH acts as a competitive ligand to break the coordination between Ag and 1-VI, leading to the expansion and structural color change of the hydrogel.

Achieving high performance nanoscale photonic functionalities remains extraordinarily challenging when using naturally derived biomaterials. The ability to manipulate ultrathin films of structural proteins─combined with photolithographic control of their polymorphism─unlocks a compelling route toward engineering biopolymer-based photonic crystals with precisely defined photonic bandgaps and reconfigurable structural colors. In this work, we describe a robust, water-based fabrication process for silk/inorganic hybrid one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystals that overcomes many of the conventional difficulties in ensuring reproducibility, uniformity, and reliability at the nanoscale.

Iridescent coloration is a vibrant structural colour that is widespread in nature, but in mammals is thought to be limited. Although multiple rodent and Eulipotyphlan species have been anecdotally described as iridescent, empirical evidence outside of the Chrysochloridae (golden mole) family is lacking. As iridescence in golden moles is created through a thin-film mechanism from a compressed cuticle structure, and the structure of hair is highly conserved, we expect iridescence to be present, and produced by the same mechanism, in mammals that share similar hair properties.

Background And Objectives: While reductions in optical coherence tomography (OCT) pRNFL and ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thicknesses have been shown to be associated with brain atrophy in adult-onset MS (AOMS) cohorts, the relationship between OCT and brain MRI measures is less established in pediatric-onset MS (POMS). Our aim was to examine the associations of OCT measures with volumetric MRI in a cohort of patients with POMS to determine whether OCT measures reflect CNS neurodegeneration in this patient population, as is seen in AOMS cohorts.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with retrospective ascertainment of patients with POMS evaluated at a single center with expertise in POMS and neuro-ophthalmology.

Sea surface temperature of the Red Sea has increased by up to 0.45 °C per decade over the last 30 years, and coral bleaching events are becoming more frequent. A reef bleaching event was observed in October 2020, whereby some parts of the Red Sea experienced more than 12 °C-weeks.
