Microplastics loaded with phenanthrene and derivatives are widely detected in aquatic environments, and the coating of natural minerals or organic macromolecules may change the environmental behavior of microplastics. In this study, three kinds of composites with different coverage were prepared by coating goethite on the surface of polyvinyl chloride microplastics to investigate the adsorption and desorption behavior of phenanthrene (PHE) and 1-hydroxyphenanthrene (1-OHPHE), and the effect of mucin on desorption was investigated. The results showed that goethite promoted the adsorption of PHE and 1-OHPHE by increasing the specific surface area of the composites. With the increase of the cover degree, the adsorption of PHE decreased because of the decrease in hydrophobicity; while the adsorption of 1-OHPHE initially increased and then decreased with the contributions of hydrophobic interaction and hydrogen bond. The adsorption of 1-OHPHE could be influenced by the pH and ionic strength primarily through electrostatic interactions and Ca bridging. The goethite significantly increased the desorption hysteresis for two chemicals due to the complicated pore structures and increased adsorption affinity. Mucin promoted the desorption of PHE through competitive adsorption, and inhibit the desorption of 1-OHPHE through hydrophobic interaction, hydrogen bonding and Ca bridging. This study elucidated the effects of natural minerals on the adsorption and desorption behavior of organic pollutants on microplastics, briefly discussed the effects of organic macromolecules on the desorption behavior of pollutants with different properties, and emphasized the different environmental behaviors of pollutants.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a persistent organic pollutant with toxic effects on human health and ecosystems. In this study, the performance of MWCNT-OH functionalized with iron nanoparticles (MWCNT-OH@Fe) using sugarcane bagasse extract as a reducing agent (green synthesis) was evaluated for BPA adsorption. The kinetics are fast, between 10 and 20 min in the range of concentrations evaluated and the resistance to external film diffusion (external film mass transfer) identified as the rate-limiting step of the process.

Three-dimensional printing (3DP) technology enables the flexible fabrication of integrated monolithic microextraction chips for high-throughput sample pretreatment. Meanwhile, the extraction performance of 3DP-based channels is largely limited by printer resolution and the commercially available printing materials. In this work, a 3DP array monolithic microextraction chip (AMC) was fabricated by integrating 26-array helical monolithic microextraction channels for sample pretreatment and 52-array gas valves for fluid control.

Heterojunctions have garnered significant attention in the field of photocatalysis due to their exceptional ability to facilitate the separation of photogenerated charge carriers and their high efficiency in hydrogen reaction. However, their overall photocatalytic performance is often constrained by electron transport rates and suboptimal hydrogen adsorption/desorption kinetics. To address these challenges, this study develops a g-CN/MoS@MoC dual-effect synergistic solid-state Z-type heterojunction, synthesized through the in-situ sulfurization of MoC combined with ultrasonic self-assembly technique.

Reaction intermediates (RI) are key factors that directly determine the efficiency of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). In this study, a local electric field microenvironment was built in a FeNi and MoNi heterostructure (H-FeNiMo/NMF) to induce the redistribution of hydroxyls and protons on the metal sites during the OER and HER. H-FeNiMo/NMF requires only 270 and 155 mV to reach 100 mA cm in alkaline media for OER and HER, respectively.

Desorption processes of HO molecules from AlO(HO) ( = 3, 5, 7) and AlO(HO)H ( = 4, 6, 8) clusters were investigated using gas-phase thermal desorption spectrometry to evaluate the HO storage capacity and mechanisms of aluminum oxide clusters. The clusters stored approximately 10 HO molecules at ∼300 K, depending on the size (), and released them upon heating. Even after heating to ∼1000 K, 2-4 HO molecules remained bound.
