Article Abstract

Conductive hydrogels have wide application prospects in flexible electronics, biosensors, and soft robotics because of their high flexibility, adjustable mechanical properties, and excellent electrochemical properties. However, it is difficult for a pure conductive polymer or rigid conductive filler hydrogel to meet the application requirements regarding electricity, mechanics, biocompatibility, and stability. To solve this problem, a special combination of polyacrylic acid (PAA) and liquid metal (LM) was adopted. Here, PAA was used as the interlayer phase, through which, on the one hand, the LM nanoparticles were coated through rich surface carboxyl groups and, on the other hand, the hydrogel framework was formed by chelating with calcium ions (Ca). The Ca-PAA-LM conductive hydrogel prepared in this way combined the multifunctional properties of plasticity, stretchability, printability, self-healing, and multiple sensing capabilities. Therefore, the epidermal sensor based on this hydrogel showed stable monitoring of human health conditions, including all-around body movements and electrophysiological signals, such as electrocardiography and electromyography. The conductive hydrogel developed in this study provides an ideal material choice for personalized health monitoring devices and also provides a path for the development of a new generation of multifunctional flexible sensors.

This study addresses critical technical challenges in fabricating functional pigmented skin models via 3D bioprinting through the synergistic integration of droplet-based deposition and precision motion control. A hybrid bioprinting strategy was developed to create multilayer biomimetic architectures: the dermal layer was fabricated through extrusion of gelatin methacryloyl-polyacrylamide (GelMA-PAM) composites, while the epidermal layer incorporated precisely patterned melanocyte-laden GelMA-PAM arrays deposited via microvalve technology, subsequently solidified and populated with keratinocytes. To enhance printing reliability, a fractional-order proportional-integral control system optimized through particle swarm optimization (PSO-FOPI) was implemented, significantly improving motor speed regulation and positioning accuracy.

Wearable sweat sensors are emerging as transformative noninvasive platforms for real-time physiological monitoring. However, persistent challenges regarding dynamic skin conformability, reliable adhesion, efficient sweat uptake/transport, and biosafety impede clinical translation. Herein, we developed hydrophilic-adhesive polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofiber membranes via a bioinspired modification strategy for sweat sensor construction.

The demand for flexible sensors in wearable electronics, health monitoring, and other fields has driven the innovative development of ionogel materials. However, traditional ionogels face challenges such as ionic liquid leakage, insufficient mechanical properties, and difficulty in special structural design by facile methods. This study designs a photocurable ink containing the polymerizable ionic monomer [BVIM]Br, the multifunctional thiol pentaerythritol tetrakis(3-mercaptopropionate), and the cross-linking agent poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate.

A sensitive dual-target electrochemical biosensor was developed integrating circular bipedal DNA walkers with a three-dimensional hollow carbon nanospheres-tetrametallic nanoparticle (3D HCNs-TT NPs) modified platform, enabling concurrent detection of two critical epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) exon 19 mutations: E746_A750 deletion (Mut DNA A) and L747_S752delinsS (Mut DNA B). The circular bipedal DNA walkers address the limitations of low amplification efficiency in traditional single-legged DNA walkers and mitigate the sensitivity reduction caused by excessively long walking strands. Additionally, we used the 3D HCNs-TT NPs nanocomposite materials to modify the electrodes, which significantly increased the electron transfer rate and provided more active sites for molecular probe loading, thereby further enhancing the performance of the detection platform.

Flexible electronics have attracted significant attention for their wide-range applications in flexible displays, human-machine interfaces, epidermal sensor systems, and biomedical engineering. Transfer printing serves as an effective approach to enable the manufacture of flexible electronics with high resolution, multiscale, and mass production features, which requires a lithographic process and the transfer of the devices from rigid substrates onto flexible substrates. However, typical wet transfer printing faces a series of challenges such as time consumption, instability of devices, and chemical solvent wastes, which cause harmful effects on the environment and health.
