Wine has been utilized as a source for medicinal preparations, combined with various herbs, to treat particular ailments and disorders. By utilizing herb extracts, regular but limited consumption of these herbal wines helps to decrease the need for prescription medications to treat a variety of ailments. The diversity and the composition of the yeast micropopulation significantly contribute to the sensory characteristics of wine. A particular metabolic activity characterizes the growth of each wine yeast species, which determines the concentrations of flavor compounds in the final wine. Numerous herbs, such as tulsi, ginger, aloe vera, tea, amla, lemongrass, and peppermint, are used in the preparation of herbal wines, where either the herb or herbal blends are primarily used as the substrate. The variants provided improved accuracy, increased acceptability, and broader uses for the novel product. Herbal wines pave the way to provide nutraceuticals to consumers and protection against pathogenic microorganisms and inflammation through their richness in antioxidants. The existing herbal wines and their health advantages are discussed in this Review, along with some new directions for the herbal wine business.

A novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based electrochemical sensor has been developed for the selective detection of naringenin (NAR) in various real-world samples, including plant extracts, wine, and herbal supplements. To enhance the active surface area and porosity of the glassy carbon electrode (GCE), a 2D/0D nanocomposite composed of graphene oxide (GO) and cobalt ferrite (CFO) nanoparticles, CFO_GO, was incorporated into the sensor design. 4-aminobenzoic acid (4-ABA) was selected as the functional monomer to prepare the MIPs.

Medicinal plant underground diseases, typified by root rot, directly result in a significant reduction in both the yield and quality of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) because of its hidden occurrence and difficulty in prevention and control. Prevention and control measures depending on chemical pesticides bring potential risks to the safety of TCM and easily cause environmental pollution. The introduction of the new version of Good Agricultural Practice for Chinese Crude Drugs(GAP) and the enhancement of pesticide residue limit standards for TCM and decoction pieces in Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2025 edition) have elevated the requirements for green and efficient disease prevention and control technologies of TCM.

The study investigated the intrinsic changes in material basis of Angelicae Sinensis Radix during wine processing by headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry(HS-GC-IMS), headspace-solid phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(HS-SPME-GC-MS), and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-orbitrap mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-Orbitrap-MS) combined with chemometrics. HS-GC-IMS fingerprints of Angelicae Sinensis Radix before and after wine processing were established to analyze the variation trends of volatile components and characterize volatile small-molecule substances before and after processing. Principal component analysis(PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA) were employed for differentiation and difference analysis.

As one of the traditional pretreatments for many Chinese herbal medicines, Sulfur Fumigation might remain residual sulfites which would endanger human health when overdosage. It should be invaluable to monitor their residual content in food or medicines. Abundant novel fluorescent probes for sulfur dioxide were designed, constructed and evaluated with excellent sensitivity, but lack in specificity.

Background: Corni Fructus, a plant with both medicinal and edible properties, is renowned for its aromatic flavor and hepatoprotective and renoprotective effects, offering significant nutritional value and broad application potential. Wine-processed Corni Fructus (WCF) is a primary processed form of Corni Fructus, widely utilized in food supplements. Traditional Chinese medicine suggests that wine-processing enhances its hepatoprotective and renoprotective properties, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.
