A novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) cytosensor for the ultrasensitive detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) was developed. The bio-inspired reduced graphene oxide (rGO) honeycomb film photoelectrode was fabricated a "breath figure" method, followed by the self-assembly of a BiS-MoS heterojunction. The resulting BiS-MoS heterojunction-modified rGO honeycomb film was employed as a sensing matrix for the first time. Compared to the smooth rGO film, the significant enhanced photocurrent of the photoelectrode under visible light was attributed to its improved visible light absorption, increased surface area and enhanced separation efficiency of photo-generated electron-hole pairs, which met the requirements of the PEC sensor for detecting larger targets. By virtue of the photocurrent decrease due to the steric hindrance of MCF-7 cells, which were captured by an aptamer immobilized on the surface of the photoelectrode, a cytosensor for detecting CTCs was achieved, showing a wide linear range of 10 × 10 cells per mL and a low detection limit of 2 cells per mL. Furthermore, MCF-7 cells in human serum were determined by this PEC biosensor, exhibiting great potential in the clinical detection of CTCs.

Electrochemical sensors capable of detecting different types of biomolecules using a single electrode are highly desirable for simplifying analytical platforms and expanding their practical applicability. Herein, we develop a multifunctional electrochemical sensor based on a 3D honeycomb-like porous rGO/PPy-POM composite film for the independent detection of dopamine (DA) and folic acid (FA), two chemically distinct and clinically relevant biomolecules. The electrode is fabricated through a facile, low-cost, and environmentally friendly breath figure method to create a 3D porous reduced graphene oxide (rGO) framework, followed by codeposition of polypyrrole (PPy) and polyoxometalates (POMs).

The mixing characteristics of oxide materials largely depend on the dimensionality of the system, and many oxide-alloy structures in three dimensions (3D) do not have a 2D analog. To unravel fundamental alloying mechanisms in 2D, V/Cr mixing into oxide thin films is investigated on Pt(111) by scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional theory. The experiments reveal flat, double-stack islands made of a compact bottom and a honeycomb top layer with a 4.

In polymer-based lithium batteries, polymer electrolytes (PEs) exhibit limited ionic conductivity at room temperature (25 °C). To address this issue, this paper describes a hexagonal-structure-based single-ion conducting gel polymer electrolyte (-SICGPE) framework with a robust and efficient cross-linked polymer network, applicable to polymer-based batteries even at 25 °C. The proposed cross-linked polymer network backbone of the -SICGPE, as a semisolid-state thin film type, has the homogeneous honeycomb structure incorporating anion receptor(s) inside each of its hexagonal closed cells and is obtained by cross-linking between trimethylolpropane tris(3-mercaptopropionate) and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate in a newly synthesized anion-receptor solution.

In today's cookware market, non-stick pans with Teflon coatings exhibit excellent performance and account for the majority of the market share. However, using Teflon coated non-stick cookware is risky and may be harmful to human health. Uncoated non-stick pans are much healthier for humanity but are difficult to fabricate.
