In today's cookware market, non-stick pans with Teflon coatings exhibit excellent performance and account for the majority of the market share. However, using Teflon coated non-stick cookware is risky and may be harmful to human health. Uncoated non-stick pans are much healthier for humanity but are difficult to fabricate. Herein, a bionic uncoated non-stick pan was successfully fabricated on a titanium substrate, which was inspired from and honeycomb structures. The cooking oil was easily stored and anchored by the multi-scale structures to form an oil film which reduced the adhesive strength between the pork and the pan. The honeycomb structures effectively protected the microstructures from being scraped off by kitchen cleaning utensils and improved the abrasion resistance of the pan. Owing to its excellent performance and bioinspired design, the fabricated bionic uncoated non-stick titanium pan exhibits broad application potential, particularly in an era marked by increasing health consciousness.

Sol-gel derived coatings have many practical applications in different industries. In this paper, HI-GARD hard coat, multi-layer antireflective coatings, and an anti-glare coating with organic particles are described. The dissemination of tattooing into mainstream culture has raised concerns pertaining to the medical implications of these practices. This paper reports on the coating of tattoo needles with metallic-glass (MG) to reduce trauma to the skin. Extensive experimentation using pork samples and live pigs demonstrated the beneficial effects of non-stick MG coatings.

A novel prototype polymer-coated adsorbent (PCA) has been developed for the effective expanded bed recovery of protein products from particulate feedstocks. The adsorbents were manufactured using the three-phase emulsification process by which the selected core phases (anion- and cation-exchangers and a custom-assembled pseudo-affinity adsorbent) were coated by an agarose gel. This new non-stick exterior coating acts as a sieve reducing the non-specific binding of cell and cell debris without diminution of selective capture of target protein from complex feedstocks such as whole microbial broths and cell disruptates.
