The extracellular matrix (ECM) is comprised of various extracellular macromolecules, including collagen, enzymes, and glycoproteins, which offer structural and biochemical support to neighboring cells. After tissue injury, extracellular matrix proteins deposit in the damaged tissue to promote tissue healing. However, an imbalance between ECM production and degradation can result in excessive deposition, leading to fibrosis and subsequent organ dysfunction. Acting as a regulatory protein within the extracellular matrix, CCN3 plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, such as cell proliferation, angiogenesis, tumorigenesis, and wound healing. Many studies have demonstrated that CCN3 can reduce the production of ECM in tissues through diverse mechanisms thereby exerting an inhibitory effect on fibrosis. Consequently, CCN3 emerges as a promising therapeutic target for ameliorating fibrosis.

Metaflammation, a chronic immune response triggered by metabolic dysregulation, poses significant threats to gut-liver homeostasis in aquaculture species. To understand the progression of metaflammation, it is crucial to examine the role of SOCS8 deficiency in socs8 zebrafish, as this species may serve as a disease model for metabolic disorders due to the gradual dysregulation of immunity, metabolism, and the gut microbiota observed in them. This study examines the immune-metabolic crosstalk in grass carp, subjected to soybean meal-induced enteritis, and in socs8 zebrafish under genetic and dietary stress.

The increasing presence of nanoplastics (NPs) and synthetic antioxidants like 3-tert -Butyl-4-hydroxyanisole (3-BHA) in the environment has attracted widespread attention about their combined toxicological effects on human health, particularly on renal function. This study explored to the combined impacts of NPs and 3-BHA at environmentally relevant concentrations on sub-chronic kidney injury in mice. Firstly, our results confirmed that the accumulation of 80 nm NPs in renal tissues, leading to structural abnormalities such as reduced mitochondrial cristae and increased empty bubbles in mice by transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis.
