Article Abstract

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) production from waste activated sludge (WAS) is the main reason for odor emission during anaerobic fermentation system. CaO has been reported to effectively improve the resources recovery of WAS, but its potential effect on HS production in anaerobic fermentation process remains unrecognized. In present study, it was found that the addition of 60 mg/g VSS CaO greatly inhibited HS production and the maximum yield of HS was 60.1 ± 1.8% lower than the control. Mechanism investigation demonstrated that CaO destroyed sludge structure and increased the release of intracellular organic matter with hydrogen bonding networks destroying, but had a mild effect on the transformation of sulfur containing organic matters and inorganic sulfate reduction. Additionally, the enhancement in H and S consumption by alkaline condition and metal ions release was another reason for the inhibition of HS production in CaO addition reactors. Furthermore, microbial analysis showed that CaO addition importantly reduced the hydrolysis microorganism, particularly denitrification hydrolytic bacterias (e.g., unclassified_f_Chitinophagaceae and Dechloromonas), sulfate reducing bacterias (SRBs) (e.g., unclassified_c_Deltaproteobacteria and Desulfosarcina) and genes (e.g., PepD, cysN/D, CysH/C and Sir) involved in organic sulfur hydrolysis and sulfate reduction. Results from this study provides theoretical insights into the practical applications of CaO.

The prompt and accurate identification of pathogenic bacteria is crucial for mitigating the transmission of infections. Conventional detection methods face limitations, including lengthy processing, complex sample pretreatment, high instrumentation costs, and insufficient sensitivity for rapid on-site screening. To address these challenges, an aptamer (Apt)-sensor based on functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) was developed for detecting Escherichia coli.

Our research aims to ascertain the value of precursor and outgrowth lepidic in aiding the confirmation of multiple lung adenocarcinomas as separate primary lung cancers (SPLC). A total of 151 patients with metachronous multiple invasive adenocarcinomas were included in this study. Driver mutation tests(at least five genes: EGFR, ALK, KRAS, BRAF, and ROS1) were conducted on 302 tumors collected from 151 patients.

In modern micro/nano fabrication, 3D printing technology drives industry transformation. However, existing technologies face bottlenecks in improving process efficiency and precision, while also struggling to achieve accurate fabrication of composite 3D microstructures. This study proposes a microlens self-focusing printing technique that integrates digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing with an optical microscope platform.

Human factors are central to aviation safety, with pilot cognitive states such as workload, stress, and situation awareness playing important roles in flight performance and safety. Although flight simulators are widely used for training and scientific research, they often lack the ecological validity needed to replicate pilot cognitive states from real flights. To address these limitations, a new in-flight data collection methodology for general aviation using a Cessna 172 aircraft, which is one of the most widely used aircraft for pilot training, is presented.

Zeolite synthesis from fly ash offers recycling and environmental benefits for carbon dioxide capture, but varying fly ash composition from different sources has different compositions, leading to inconsistent adsorption results. To achieve high CO adsorption performance and stability in zeolite synthesis from fly ash systems, this study established an element-controlled simulated fly ash system with Ca/Fe gradient differences. Hydrothermal synthesis yielded zeolites with optimized oxide ratios for CO adsorption.
