Article Abstract

The effect of vibration magnitude on frequency-dependence of discomfort of human body is always overlooked with respect to the comfort equivalence contours, particularly for high-magnitude vibration in wideband frequency. In this study, the magnitude effect of vertical vibration on discomfort of human body is investigated experimentally. Nineteen male subjects are involved in the jury test of vibration discomfort in the vertical direction with 2-5 m/s in magnitude up to 100 Hz. It is shown that the growth rate of discomfort may exceed 1 due to the high-magnitude vibration employed. In this condition that the rate varies around 1, the Stevens' power law is not capable to properly represent the relationship between the subjective discomfort and the vibration magnitude. It means the equivalent comfort contours are not only dependent on the frequency range but also related to the vibration magnitude. Frequency weightings of vibration discomfort are influenced by the excitation magnitude. The occupant comfort to vertical whole-body vibration is affected by vibration magnitude. This study provides the effect of vibration magnitude on frequency-dependence of discomfort to whole-body vibration. It is suggested to propose variable frequency weightings for vibration discomfort evaluation under different magnitudes to achieve better comfort design.

Symmetry Breaking Assisted Fast Reverse Intersystem Crossing for Efficient TADF Materials.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

September 2025

State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Luminescence from Molecular Aggregates, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, 510640, China.

Reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) process is critical for thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials to realize spin-flip of triplet excitons in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), but the RISC processes of most TADF materials are not fast enough, undermining electroluminescence (EL) efficiency stability and operational lifetime. Herein, a symmetry breaking strategy to accelerate RISC processes is proposed. By designing asymmetric electron-withdrawing backbone consisting of benzonitrile and xanthone/thioxanthone groups, two new asymmetric TADF molecules, 4tCzCN-pXT and 4tCzCN-pTXT, with multiple 3,6-di-tert-butylcarbazole donors are successfully developed.

This paper investigates a new method to evaluate dynamic stress in plate or shell-like components due to propagation of elastic waves. The proposed method is based on collinear mixing of the stress wave with a high frequency (probe) wave, which is excited in the ultrasonic frequency range. The wave interactions generate linear and nonlinear responses such as the changes of the group velocity of the probe wave and generation of higher-order harmonics, respectively.

This study aimed to quantify how repetitive tensile loading alters the mechanical and structural properties of the annulus fibrosus (AF). Mechanical changes were evaluated through a three-step protocol involving pre-damage characterization of dynamic and viscoelastic properties, damage induction using predetermined loading cycles (n=400, 1600, 6400, 12,800) to a specified strain magnitude (11 %, 20 %, 28 %, 44 %), and post-damage characterization of the same properties. Structural changes were assessed by subjecting tissue to damage cycles and staining with hematoxylin and eosin or fluorescing collagen hybridizing peptides (F-CHP).

Babinet-Inverted GaP Suspended Fishnet Membrane Enables Long-Lasting Unshifted Gigahertz Hypersonic Waves Generation.

Nanostructured dielectric optomechanical platforms have facilitated the efficient generation and precise control of hypersonic waves. However, substantial energy losses have thus far prevented the realization of nanoresonators with long-lasting signals and high quality factors. In this study, we propose suspended all-dielectric fishnet structures made of gallium phosphide, which exhibit up to five odd-order resonant modes with an exceptionally low isotropic loss factor (η = 0.

The "Miller" design of mixing inlet (MI) enables a cascade impactor to operate at a constant flow rate while the orally inhaled product-on-test is evaluated at varying flow rates by controlling the flow of air via its side-arm. As part of the European Pharmaceutical Aerosol Group (EPAG) Impactor subgroup, we report a cross-industry experimental investigation by five organizations to determine internal losses of different inhaler-generated aerosolized medications within commercially available MIs, focusing on pharmacopeial methods for product testing. Evaluations were undertaken of solution and suspension formulations delivered by pressurized metered dose inhalers (pMDIs), passive dry powder inhalers (DPIs), and compressed air-jet and vibrating mesh nebulizers.
