Spike architecture influences grain yield in wheat. We report the map-based cloning of a gene determining the number of spikelet nodes per spike in common wheat. The cloned gene is named and encodes a CONSTANS-like protein that is orthologous to in plant species. Constitutive overexpression of the dominant allele but without the region encoding B-boxes in a common wheat cultivar increases the number of spikelet nodes per spike and produces more tillers and spikes, thereby enhancing grain yield in transgenic plants under field conditions. Allelic variation in results in amino acid substitutions leading to differential protein phosphorylation by the protein kinase K4. The allele is present in emmer wheat but is rare in a global collection of modern wheat cultivars.

Salt stress impairs photosynthetic efficiency and consequently reduces the growth, development, and grain yield of crop plants. The formation of hydrophobic barriers in the root endodermis, including the suberin lamellae and Casparian strips, is a key adaptive strategy for salt stress tolerance. In this study, we identified the role of the rice NAC transcription factor, ONAC005, in salt stress tolerance.

Metal halide perovskites have garnered significant attention due to their exceptional photoelectric properties. The alkali metal doping strategy has been demonstrated to effectively modulate grain size, control crystallization kinetics, and adjust band gap characteristics in perovskite. This study employs the first-principles calculations to reveal that the selection of alkali metal species and their corresponding doping methodologies exert markedly distinct influences on both the electronic properties and ion migration kinetics of CsPbBr perovskites.

This study investigated the effects of adding Saccharomycopsis fibuligera (SF) and Pichia kudriavzevii (PK) on microbial communities and flavor substances in industrial xiaoqu light-flavor baijiu production. The result showed that the highest acidity was found in the control group (CK: Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Rhizopus) at the end of fermentation. SF and PK promoted the growth of Rhizopus while decreasing the abundance of S.

As a naturally derived biomacromolecule, chitosan is widely utilized in food preservation. However, the chitosan derived from silkworm pupae and its application in food preservation are relatively unexplored. To obtain chitosan with enhanced preservation properties, silkworm pupae chitosan was extracted using dual-frequency ultrasound-assisted chemical and enzymatic methods, followed by a comparative analysis of their physicochemical properties, biological activity, and preservation efficacy on strawberries.

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding dry-rolled hybrid rye grain (DRRG) as a replacement for dry-rolled corn (DRC) in beef cattle finishing diets. Two inclusion strategies for rye grain (RG) were evaluated: a total replacement of DRC for a limited time and a partial replacement during the entire feeding trial for Exp. 1 and 2, respectively.
