This study was carried out to determine the pathogen-causing diarrhoea in sheep Ovis aries in the Qinghai Tibetan Plateau Area, China. A trophozoite was identified as species of ciliate alveolates infecting the sheep based on morphological characteristics examined by microscope. It was mostly spherical, colourless and transparent, with many vesicles. Macronucleus and contractile vacuoles could not be distinguished. Size of the trophozoite was 80-180 × 70-150 μm and its surface was covered with cilia. Molecular analysis based on sequences of 18S rRNA and ITS genes confirmed the ciliate species as Balantidium coli. According to the literature, there have been many epidemiological investigations of B. coli infection in pigs, monkeys and humans. To our knowledge, this was the first report of B. coli infections in sheep in the Qinghai Tibetan Plateau Area of China, or eleswhere around the world. Importantly, the sheep case was rare but raised our concern that B. coli may spread across species and expand its host range.

Glacial lakes play a vital role as indicators of global climate change and regional environmental responses. Eukaryotic planktonic microorganisms, pivotal in driving biogeochemical cycling of nutrients within these ecosystems, are crucial for preserving stability and ecological function of glacial lake environments. Nevertheless, the spatial and temporal dynamics, along with the mechanisms responsible for sustaining eukaryotic planktonic microbial communities in glacial lakes, especially during the glacier retreat and lake formation, are still largely uncharted.

Ophiocordyceps sinensis (OS) faces serious risks of food fraud, including quality misrepresentation, adulteration and illegal additives. To preserve the economic interests of consumers and the transparent management of food trade, so this study proposed a rapid and non-destructive detection tool to identify traceability of the growth environment and predict quality markers of OS. Understanding the distribution patterns of soil bacterial community structure and diversity across different forest types is essential for elucidating the mechanisms underlying microbial community assembly and its ecological drivers, particularly under the pressures of climate change. In this study, we examined six forest types-including four monocultures and two mixed-species stands-to systematically evaluate the structural composition, diversity metrics, and functional potential of soil bacterial communities.
