Article Abstract

Multifunctional nanocomposites have the potential to integrate sensing, diagnostic, and therapeutic functions into a single nanostructure. Herein, we synthesize Fe3O4@polydopamine core-shell nanocomposites (Fe3O4@PDA NCs) through an in situ self-polymerization method. Dopamine, a melanin-like mimic of mussel adhesive proteins, can self-polymerize to form surface-adherent polydopamine (PDA) films onto a wide range of materials including Fe3O4 nanoparticles used here. In such nanocomposites, PDA provides a number of advantages, such as near-infrared absorption, high fluorescence quenching efficiency, and a surface for further functionalization with biomolecules. We demonstrate the ability of the Fe3O4@PDA NCs to act as theranostic agents for intracellular mRNA detection and multimodal imaging-guided photothermal therapy. This work would stimulate interest in the use of PDA as a useful material to construct multifunctional nanocomposites for biomedical applications.

Electronic capacitor films based on polymer matrices and inorganic nanofillers capable of storing more energy play a crucial role in advanced modern electrical industries and devices. Herein, a series of nanocomposite films composed of "core-shell-dot" BNNs-PDA@Ag hybrid structures with multiple breakdown strength enhancement mechanisms as fillers and methyl methacrylate--glycidyl methacrylate (MG) copolymers as matrices were successfully synthesized. The introduced 2D and wide-bandgap BNNs not only enhanced the breakdown strength by taking advantage of their excellent physical properties, but also further improved their energy storage properties both at ambient and elevated temperatures through the formation of deeper traps at the organic-inorganic interface.

A dual-mode aptasensor was engineered for aflatoxin B (AFB) detection by functional integration of peroxidase-mimetic Au@CeO core-shell nanostructures with emissive carbon dots (CDs). The Au@CeO nanocomposite, synthesized via spontaneous redox reaction, exhibited enhanced peroxidase-like activity due to abundant Ce/oxygen vacancies facilitating hydroxyl radical generation. The aptasensor utilizes a competitive binding mechanism, where AFB competed with immobilized Au@CeO-CDs-Apt1 probes for binding sites, resulting in inversely proportional colorimetric and fluorescent signals.

In this work, a novel core-shell structured magnetic CoO@mSiO nanocomposite supported ionic liquid/palladium (CoO@mSiO/IL-Pd) is synthesized and its structure is characterized by using PXRD, EDX, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, TGA and VSM. This magnetic material was prepared through coating of mesoporous silica shell on magnetic cobalt oxide nanoparticles followed by chemical immobilization of ionic liquid/Pd complex. The CoO@mSiO/IL-Pd nanocomposite was used as an efficient and powerful catalyst for the reduction of nitrobenzenes.

Photocatalytic CO reduction offers a dual solution to mitigate the energy crisis and reduce carbon emissions. In situ synthesis of the CuWS@SnInS (CWS@SIS) composite has established S-S bonds at the interface, which act as atomic-scale interfacial "bridges" to stabilize the heterojunction interface. SnInS nanosheets are uniformly dispersed on the CuWS surface, activating the (101) crystal plane of CuWS to consume photogenerated holes.

Gold-mesoporous silica (Au@mSiO) core-shell nanoparticles (NPs) have shown interesting potential for the loading of molecules to be delivered by plasmonic heating. In this study, we describe the unprecedented synthesis of Au@mSiO NPs with large pores (lp-Au@mSiO), aiming at encapsulating large biomolecules such as proteins. Starting from recently reported Au@mSiO seeds with a diameter of 45 nm, two strategies are presented to grow a mesoporous shell with large pores.
