Per-O-methylation of neutral carbohydrates in one step by adding dimethyl sulfoxide, powdered sodium hydroxide, and methyl iodide directly to aqueous sample is described. The influence of the water on the methylation reaction is investigated. Solid powdered sodium hydroxide is very hygroscopic and can scavenge the water from sample if an additional excess of sodium hydroxide is added. The degree of per-O-methylation of carbohydrates is checked by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of mono- and disaccharides from grape juice is presented.

Following their defeat in the Texas Revolution of 1836, the Mexican Army disabled and buried cannons used in the defense of the Alamo. Rediscovered in 1852, 13 of these cannons have since journeyed through private collections and public exhibits before arriving at the Alamo. Among them is a bronze 4-pounder cannon, thought to have seen action during the battle itself.

Tissue adhesives have emerged as a promising alternative to conventional sutures and staplers in the management of hemostasis, tissue defect sealing, and wound repair. However, the efficacy of current bio-adhesives in clinical practice is compromised by the limitations, including poor wet adhesion, inadequate mechanical strength, vulnerability to gastrointestinal fluids, and insufficient hemostatic performance. Herein, a marine organism-inspired tough and adhesive patch (MOTAP) was developed to address these challenges.

Background: Advanced materials and techniques are used to successfully manage the apexification of immature teeth with open apices. The use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), bioceramic sealers, and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), combined with internal heating and ultrasonic activation, ensures that canals are cleaned, disinfected, and sealed properly. Magnification devices, such as dental operating microscopes (DOM), provide precise visualization for accurate material placement, while the micro apical placement system ensures void-free MTA delivery.

Introduction: To investigate the combined use of laser, nanobubble water (NB-HO), and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)) for endodontic disinfection, particularly in regenerative endodontic cases where maximum effectiveness is needed.
Methods: Canal of human teeth were prepared, sterilized and inoculated with Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis).
