The development of small hydropower plants (SHPs) has significantly altered river connectivity and biodiversity, with its ecological impacts increasingly gaining attention. Previous ecological impact studies have biologically focused on aquatic organisms such as fish, macroinvertebrates and algae, while research on benthic biofilms, a dominant microbial life form, remains limited. Thus, we established sampling sites at 15 SHPs in the Oujiang River Basin, located upstream of the dam (S1), within the reservoir area (S2), in the dewatered section with ecological flow (S3), and downstream where natural flow is restored (S4).

Freshwater insect biodiversity is under global threat from anthropogenic stressors, yet the roles of natural and anthropogenic drivers remain unclear. Here, we examine 783 river basins to map the global diversity and explore the effects of sampling bias, natural, and anthropogenic factors on four major taxa: Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera and Odonata (EPTO). Climate change increases the frequency of storm events, which flush land pollutants, including phosphorus (P), into freshwater bodies; nonetheless, understanding the biogeochemical transformation of P in dissolved and particulate forms during storm events is still challenging. We collected surface water samples during storm and dry weather flow from five study sites along a pH gradient for measurement of P species, including: dissolved inorganic P (DIP) and organic P (DOP); colloidal organic and inorganic P (COP and CIP); and particulate organic and inorganic P (POP and PIP). In dry weather flow, DIP levels rise due to low concentrations of suspended particulate matter (SPM) (11-23 mg L) and desorption from the particulate matter.

Stimulus-responsive organic room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials exhibit variations in their luminescent characteristics (lifetime and efficiency) upon exposure to external stimuli, including force, heat, light and acid-base conditions, the development of stimulus-responsive RTP molecules becomes imperative. Ferroptosis, a form of cell death driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, has known as one of the most significant pathological processes involved in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) has been demonstrated its potential in regulating ferroptosis, but the regulatory role in DKD mice and underlying mechanisms haven't been illustrated. The metacommunity theory proposes that community structure and biodiversity are influenced by both local processes (such as environmental filtering) and regional processes (such as dispersal). Despite the extensive use of traditional bioassessments based on species-environment relationships, the impact of dispersal processes on these assessments has been largely overlooked.
