Biogenic ferrous sulfide nanoparticles (FeS NPs) regulate sulfate (SO)-reducing bacteria (SRB)-driven iron/sulfur cycling in SO-rich anaerobic environments, yet their dose-dependent impacts on SRB metabolism remain unclear. This study revealed how FeS NPs dose modulates (a model SRB) in reducing schwertmannite (Sch). SRB preferentially reduced Fe(III) over SO in Sch FeS NPs-mediated extracellular electron transfer (EET).

The search for drug nanocarriers with stimuli-responsive properties and high payloads for targeted drug delivery and precision medicine is currently a focal point of biomedical research, but this endeavor still encounters various challenges. Herein, a porous organic cage (POC) is applied to paclitaxel (PTX) drug delivery for cancer therapy for the first time. Specifically, water-soluble, stable, and biocompatible POC-based nanocapsules (PTX@POC@RH40) with PTX encapsulation efficiency over 98% can be synthesized by simply grafting nonionic surfactant (Polyoxyl 40 hydrogenated castor oil, RH40) on the POC surface.

In the past two decades, the research and development of light-triggered molecular machines have mainly focused on developing molecular devices at the nanoscale. A key scientific issue in the field is how to amplify the controlled motion of molecules at the nanoscale along multiple length scales, such as the mesoscopic or the macroscopic scale, or in a more practical perspective, how to convert molecular motion into changes of properties of a macroscopic material. Light-driven molecular motors are able to perform repetitive unidirectional rotation upon irradiation, which offers unique opportunities for responsive macroscopic systems.

Methods: Based on retrospective data from the Center for Antibacterial Surveillance, we investigated the consumption of FDC antibiotics in hospital inpatient settings in China from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2019.
