The traditional manual literature screening approach is limited by its time-consuming nature and high labor costs. A pressing issue is how to leverage large language models to enhance the efficiency and quality of evidence-based evaluations of drug efficacy and safety. This study utilized a manually curated reference literature database-comprising vaccine, hypoglycemic agent, and antidepressant evaluation studies-previously developed by our team through conventional systematic review methods.

Eucommia ulmoides (EU), an endemic Chinese plant, faces challenges of weak germplasm resources and low genetic diversity. Carbon ion beam irradiation (CIBI) was used to develop a novel EU variety with enhanced traits, particularly in leaf composition. The new variety exhibited elongated leaves with distinct pigmentation and increased anthocyanin accumulation.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on identifying the species causing maize anthracnose, primarily characterized by leaf spots, and distinguishes these from other similar pathogens.
  • - Researchers analyzed 99 fungal isolates through morphological identification and gene sequence analysis, identifying 10 different species, with the most dominant being a specific species occurring at a rate of 24.2%.
  • - For the first time, pathogenicity tests confirmed the virulence of several species as causative agents of maize anthracnose, while also identifying one species as an endophytic fungus in healthy maize, highlighting the study's significance for disease management in Sichuan Province.

The response of plants to radiation is an essential topic in both space plant cultivation and mutation breeding by radiation. In this study, heavy ion beams (HIB) generated by the ground accelerator and X-rays (XR) were used as models of high linear energy transfer (LET) and low LET radiation to study the molecular response mechanism of Platycodon grandiflorus (P. grandiflorus) seedlings after irradiation.

As a natural plant source of artemisinin,a first-line drug against malaria,Artemisia annua directly affects the extraction process of artemisinin and the source of artemisinin. At present, traditional breeding methods combined with tissue culture are often used to breed high-yield artemisinin-containing new varieties of A. annua.

A highly regioselective synthesis of functionalized 3H-spiro[isobenzofuran-1,3'-isochroman] scaffolds using a novel palladium-catalyzed tandem cyclization reaction is explored. During the reaction process, C-O, C-C and C-O bonds are sequentially formed in one pot via decarboxylative allenylpalladium formation, nucleophilic attack, arylpalladium addition and intramolecular nucleophilic attack.

Article Synopsis
  • Butyric acid is being explored as a sustainable alternative to petroleum fuels, but its production faces challenges due to its inhibitory effects on the bacteria Clostridium tyrobutyricum, which is commonly used for fermentation.
  • Heavy ion irradiation of C. tyrobutyricum was tested to see if it could increase tolerance to butyric acid and enhance butyrate production.
  • Results showed that irradiated strains showed higher growth rates and butyrate production compared to wild-type strains, suggesting that this method could make butyric acid production more economically viable.

By optimizing the extraction, separation, and analytical conditions, a reliable and accurate HPLC method coupled with a photodiode array detector was developed for simultaneous detection and quantification of seven alkaloids, i.e., (-)-(R)-platydesmin, noroxyhydrastinine, berberine, skimmianine, canthin-6-one, chilenine, and pteleine in "huangbo" (the bark of Phellodendron chinense), a commonly used herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Two new highly oxygenated spirosesquiterpene lactones, ligulactones A (1) and B (2), and one known sesquiterpenoid, 1beta,10beta-epoxy-6beta-isobutyryloxy-9-oxo-furanoeremophilane (3), were isolated from the roots of Ligularia fischeri. Their structures and relative configurations were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR and MS data and by comparison of their NMR data with those of related compounds. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses confirmed their structures.

A new dammarane triterpenoid oliganthas A (1) and a new taraxastane triterpenoid oliganthas B (2), as well as five known taraxastane triterpenoids, ptiloepoxide (3), taraxast-20(30)ene-3beta,21alpha-diol (4), 22-oxo-20-taraxasten-3beta-ol (5), taraxast-20-ene-3beta,30-diol (6), and taraxastane-3beta,20alpha-diol (7), were isolated from the whole plant of Saussurea oligantha Franch. Their structures were elucidated by a series of spectroscopic methods. These compounds, especially taraxastanes 2, 5, and 6, exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Actinomyces viscosus ATCC27044.
