Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how craniomaxillofacial features relate to psychological distress in adult orthodontic patients, focusing on a sample of 190 individuals divided by their Kessler psychological distress scores.
  • Males with higher psychological distress displayed specific facial characteristics such as increased anterior facial height, altered lip length, and smaller overbite, while no significant differences were found in females.
  • The findings suggest that orthodontists should consider the possibility of psychological distress in patients who exhibit certain craniomaxillofacial traits, such as a hyperdivergent facial pattern or open bite.

Article Synopsis
  • Composite materials, like carbon fiber reinforced laminates, experience reduced fatigue life in humid and hot conditions, making it crucial to consider these factors in evaluations.
  • Experiments were conducted under various temperature and moisture conditions, revealing significant changes in fatigue properties and failure modes, with high humidity and elevated temperature causing the biggest issues.
  • A finite element model was developed to analyze these effects, showing that high-cycle fatigue is notably weakened by moisture saturation and heat, while low-cycle fatigue can improve in cooler temperatures.

Super hybrid rice genotypes have transformed the rate of genetic yield gain primarily due to intersubspecific heterosis, although the physiological basis underpinning this yield transformation has not been well quantified. We assessed the radiation use efficiency (RUE) and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of novel hybrid rice genotypes under four management practices representative of rice cropping systems in China. Y-liangyou 900 (YLY900), a new super hybrid rice widely adopted in China, was examined in field experiments conducted in Jingzhou and Suizhou, Hubei Province, China, from 2017 to 2020.

The effective treatment of pesticide wastewater with high organic content, complex composition and high-toxicity has attracted enormous attention of researchers. This work proposes a new idea for removing the pesticide wastewater with simultaneous resource recovery, which is different from the traditional view of mineralization of pesticide wastewater via composite technology. This novel strategy involved a sequential three-step treatment: (a) acidic Ozonation process, to remove the venomous aromatic heterocyclic compounds; (b) hydrolysis and ozonation in alkaline conditions, enhancing the biodegradability of pesticide wastewater, mainly due to the dehalogenation, elimination of C=C bonds and production of low molecular-weight carboxylate anions; (c) the final step is anaerobic biological reactions.

Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) provides high resolution image sequences of blood flow through arteries and veins and is considered the gold standard for visualizing cerebrovascular anatomy for neurovascular interventions. However, acquisition frame rates are typically limited to 1-3 fps to reduce radiation exposure, and thus DSA sequences often suffer from stroboscopic effects. We present the first approach that permits generating high frame rate DSA sequences from low frame rate acquisitions eliminating these artifacts without increasing the patient's exposure to radiation.

Introduction: Orthodontic students need to accurately identify cephalometric landmarks to perform cephalometric measurements, which is the prerequisite to proper orthodontic diagnosis and treatment. To provide insights into future cephalometric education, we compared the performance of different methods that can be used in tracing practice, including a novel online game-based method, the cephalometric training module of Uceph (version 948; Uceph, Chengdu, China).

Methods: A total of 45 first-year orthodontic graduate students were divided into 3 groups to receive different kinds of cephalometric training (module group, practicing with the cephalometric training module of Uceph; teaching group, practicing under the teacher's guidance; self-training group, practicing with traced cephalogram as reference).

We studied a multi-metallic microscale 3D printing based on the meniscus-confined electrodeposition (MCED). The composition of Cu/Pt alloys can be controlled by applying different bias voltages to the CuSO/HPtCl mixed solution in MCED. We find that a double-barrel system had higher Cu/Pt alloy purity (maximum 100% Cu or maximum 80% Pt) than a single-barrel system.
