Red yeast rice (RYR), a commonly used supplement with statin-like properties, is generally considered safe but may cause severe adverse effects such as rhabdomyolysis. We report a rare case of severe RYR-induced rhabdomyolysis complicated by acute kidney injury (AKI) and respiratory failure, with diaphragmatic dysfunction as a key contributing factor. A 78-year-old woman developed progressive proximal muscle weakness, dyspnea, and tea-colored urine after taking RYR (2 g/day) for 1 month.

However, existing research on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) between different species of amphibians is limited. In the present study, water, soil, tiger frog (Hoplobatrachus chinensis) and forest frog (Rana chensinensis) samples were collected from Qingyuan County, South China.

Although deep learning methods have made significant progress, two main challenges remain: first, the difficulty in balancing global and local features leads to blurred object boundaries and misclassification; second, conventional convolutions have limited ability to perceive irregular objects, causing information loss and affecting segmentation accuracy. To address these issues, this paper proposes a global-local collaborative attention module and a spider web convolution module.

Relationships between toxicokinetic parameters, such as assimilation efficiencies and depuration rate constants of PFASs, and carbon chain length were revealed, indicating a high bioaccumulation potential for PFASs with longer carbon chains. Eggs were the main site for the deposition of perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (PFSAs) and C9 - C16 perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs), whereas the carcass was the primary organ for C4 - C8 PFCAs.

The open-set domain adaptation (DA) aims to address both covariate shift and category shift between a labeled source domain and an unlabeled target domain. Nevertheless, existing open-set DA methods always ignore the demand for discovering novel classes that are not present in the source domain and simply reject them as "unknown" sets without further exploration, which motivates us to understand the unknown sets more specifically. In this article, we present a more challenging open-world DA problem that recognizes seen classes while discovering novel classes in the target domain.

Vegetation is crucial in carbon sequestration, as it stores soil carbon and biomass. However, agricultural droughts significantly reduce vegetation growth, directly impacting the amount of carbon sequestered through photosynthesis. This study investigates the effects of agricultural drought on carbon emissions across four sub-regions of China, Northwest China, North China, the Qinghai-Tibet region, and South China, from 2001 to 2020.

Developing new structural thermoelectric materials is an interesting topic for the thermoelectric community. In this work, an n-type diamondoid compound, AgInSe, was identified with extremely low thermal conductivity and very high carrier mobility.

In this work, we investigated the potential of Te-free PbSe for thermoelectric applications by optimizing carrier mobility through crystal growth and a two-step strategy of light alloying and doping. First, Cd alloying was employed to reduce the lattice thermal conductivity () of n-type PbSe through the off-center effect while preserving carrier mobility.

The HOPs included lipophilic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), as well as proteinophilic perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs). Concentrations of PCBs, PBDEs, and short-chain PFCAs (≤8) were significantly higher in the body feathers than in the primary feathers, while long-chain PFCAs (>8) showed no significant differences among primary, tail, and body feathers.

Food waste (FW) and its biogas residue were considered as sources of terrestrial microplastics (MPs) and phthalic acid esters (PAEs) contamination. However, there was a lack of research and understanding of the MPs and PAEs pollution problem in FW dry anaerobic digestion process (DADP). The MPs and PAEs in three stages of the DADP with the largest monomer disposal scale in China were identified.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFFilm mulching has been extensively used to improve agricultural production in arid regions of China. However, without sufficient mulch film recovery, large amounts of residual film accumulated in the farmland, which would affect crop yield and water use efficiency (WUE). In order to comprehensively analyze the effects of residual film on crop yield and WUE, and clarify its influencing mechanism, present study adopted a meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the impacts of residual film on soil physicochemical properties, crop root growth, yield, and WUE.

To enhance the real-time monitoring and early-warning capabilities for dust disasters in underground coal mine, this paper presents a novel WGAN-CNN-based prediction approach to predict the dust concentration at underground coal mine working faces. Dust concentration, wind speed, temperature, and methane concentration were collected as the original data due to their nonlinear relationship. The consistency between the generated and original data distributions was verified through PCA dimensionality reduction analysis.

Persistent organic pollutants pose a great threat to amphibian populations, but information on the bioaccumulation of contaminants in amphibians remains scarce. To examine the tissue distribution and maternal transfer of organic halogenated pollutants (OHPs) in frogs, seven types of tissues from black-spotted frog (muscle, liver, kidney, stomach, intestine, heart, and egg) were collected from an e-waste-polluted area in South China. Among the seven frog tissues, median total OHP concentrations of 2.

In this paper, a millimeter-wave broadband multi-mode waveguide traveling-wave antenna with OAM is proposed by innovatively utilizing the transmitted electromagnetic waves (EMWs) characteristic of substrate-integrated gap waveguides (SIGWs) to introduce phase delay, resulting in coupling to the radiate units with a phase jump. Nine "L"-shaped slot radiate elements are cut in a circular order at a certain angle on the SIGW to generate spin angular momentum (SAM) and OAM.

The high antibacterial activity of QAS makes it promising as an alternative to antibiotics, but it suffers from secondary pollution due to its non-degradation. Here we have synthesized a class of gemini quaternary ammonium salts (GQAS) with different carbon chain lengths containing ester groups by using facile methylation reaction.

The mining and smelting of manganese ores and the accumulation of slag not only pollute the environment and increase the threat to biodiversity, but also adversely affect the health of human and other organisms. Therefore, it's important to study the restoration of manganese mining area. Since mosses play an irreplaceable role in the ecological restoration of mine sites, this study is carried out in a slag heap area that has been in continuous operation for about 50 years, and spatial variation is used instead of temporal variation to study the diversity of moss plants, the characteristics of soil heavy metal changes under moss cover, and the characteristics of bacterial communities in manganese mine sites at different time scales.
