Background: Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by Bordetella pertussis, posing a significant health threat to children. Despite vaccination efforts, a resurgence of pertussis has been observed globally, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to investigate the epidemiological trends and characteristics of pertussis among pediatric patients during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in East China.

Developing efficient and simplified tools for multiplexed genome editing remains challenging due to limitations in precursor CRISPR RNA (pre-crRNA) processing and reliance on additional RNA-based regulatory components. Cas12i.3, a small RNA-guided nuclease, reportedly lacks pre-crRNA processing ability, restricting its multiplexing capability.

Amorphous metal oxides have emerged as a promising class of materials for advanced energy storage applications, owing to their unique structural characteristics including abundant defects/vacancies, highly permeable diffusion networks, and isotropic stress distribution. However, many studies have provided detailed descriptions and explanations of crystalline metal oxides, there is a lack of corresponding reviews on amorphous metal oxide materials, especially in terms of their applications in lithium-ion electrochemical energy storage and conversion. This comprehensive review systematically summarizes recent advancements in pseudocapacitive amorphous metal oxide anodes for high-performance lithium-ion batteries.

The WD Repeat-Containing Protein 5 (WDR5) and MYC interaction is crucial for MYC-mediated oncogenesis, yet effective therapeutic intervention remains challenging due to the limited efficacy of current treatments targeting WDR5. Herein, we report the discovery of novel WDR5-MYC protein-protein interaction (PPI) inhibitors with improved potency and drug-like properties by utilizing a generative chemistry platform along with a physics-model-based tool AlChemistry. Initially, three hits were identified with reasonable binding affinity for WDR5, and further refinement through detailed structural analysis led to the discovery of sub-micromolar affinity compounds (compound 9c-1), which are > 30-fold better than reported inhibitors.

Methods: Patients were distinguished with acute or chronic CSC based on focal or diffuse retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) leakage on fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), with or without widespread RPE decompensation. Patients were categorized into five groups and treated with 577 nm yellow SML according to 50% titration power.
Since its advent, gene-editing technology has been widely used in microorganisms, animals, plants, and other species. This technology shows remarkable application prospects, giving rise to a new biotechnological industry. In particular, third-generation gene editing technology, represented by the CRISPR/Cas9 system, has become the mainstream gene editing technology owing to its advantages of high efficiency, simple operation, and low cost.

Background: Pre-clinical studies showed the anti-tumor mechanisms of PARP inhibitors (PARPi) and platinum have some crossover and overlap in the DNA damage repair pathway, patients who respond to platinum-based chemotherapy are also more likely to be sensitive to PARPi. This real-world study mainly aimed to evaluate whether TRAE (treatment-related adverse event) between platinum based chemotherapy (PBC) and niraparib are also associated.
Methods: Patients received niraparib as maintenance treatment or salvage therapy for advanced ovarian cancer at the First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical University from January 2020 to August 2023 were included.
To date, the predictive role of laboratory indicators for the phenomenon of no flow is unclear. Hence, our objective was to conduct a meta-analysis to investigate the association between laboratory parameters and the risk of the no-reflow phenomenon in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) following primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This, in turn, aims to offer valuable insights for early clinical prediction of no-reflow.

Senescence of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) is a key contributor to plaque vulnerability in atherosclerosis (AS), which is affected by endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. However, the crosstalk between ER stress and ROS production in the pathogenesis of VSMC senescence remains to be elucidated. ER-associated degradation (ERAD) is a complex process that clears unfolded or misfolded proteins to maintain ER homeostasis.

Phenotypic change of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) is the main contributor of vascular pathological remodeling in atherosclerosis. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is critical for maintaining VSMC function through elimination of misfolded proteins that impair VSMC cellular function. ER-associated degradation (ERAD) is an ER-mediated process that controls protein quality by clearing misfolded proteins.

Hypertrophy and fiber transformation are two prominent features of postnatal skeletal muscle development. However, the role of epigenetic modifications is less understood. ATAC-seq, whole genome bisulfite sequencing, and RNA-seq were applied to investigate the epigenetic dynamics of muscle in Hu sheep at 3 days, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after birth.

Sheep growth performance, mainly skeletal muscle growth, provides direct economic benefits to the animal husbandry industry. However, the underlying genetic mechanisms of different breeds remain unclear. We found that the cross-sectional area (CSA) of skeletal muscle in Dorper (D) and binary cross-breeding (HD) was higher than that in Hu sheep (H) from 3 months to 12 months after birth.

Selenium yeast (SY), as an organic food additive, is utilized to enhance laying performance and egg quality. To extend the egg production cycle, effects of selenium yeast supplementation on egg quality, plasma antioxidants and selenium deposition in aged laying hens were evaluated.

Dissimilatory metal reduction that induced by metal-based conductive materials is promising strategy to regulate anaerobic metabolism with the higher metabolic driving force. In this study, MnO as inducer of dissimilatory manganese reduction (DMnR) was added into WAS-feeding AD system for mediating complicated anaerobic metabolism.

However, machine learning (ML) for the diagnosis of STEMI complicated with arrhythmia and infarct-related arteries is still underdeveloped based on real-world data. Therefore, we aimed to develop an ML model using the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) to automatically diagnose acute STEMI based on ECG features.
