Accurate detection of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) antibodies is crucial for diagnosing and managing thrombotic events. Conventional immunoassays, however, often lack specificity and require confirmatory testing with fresh human platelets. To address this limitation, we optimized our previously developed cell-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for improved HIT detection under various experimental conditions.

Cisplatin-based induction chemotherapy (IC) improves survival in patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC). However, ≈30% of patients with LANPC receiving IC develop chemoresistance, and 20% experience disease progression. The relation between chemoresistance and Dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase-1 (DDAH1) in NPC has not been mentioned in previous studies.

Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) share transcriptomic similarities with cancer cells and express tumor-specific and tumor-associated antigens, highlighting their potential as cancer vaccines. Our previous study demonstrated that an iPSC-based vaccine effectively prevented tumor growth in various mouse models, including melanoma, breast, lung, and pancreatic cancers. However, the underlying mechanisms and the therapeutic efficacy of the iPSC-based vaccine remain unclear.

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, which predominantly manifest in the stomach, colorectum, liver, esophagus, and pancreas, accounting for approximately 35% of global cancer-related mortality. The advent of liquid biopsy has introduced a pivotal diagnostic modality for the early identification of premalignant GI lesions and incipient cancers. This non-invasive technique not only facilitates prompt therapeutic intervention, but also serves as a critical adjunct in prognosticating the likelihood of tumor recurrence.

Background: The occurrence of ischemic stroke is closely associated with the inflammatory infiltration of peripheral monocytes/macrophages, and the inflammatory activation of macrophages is often affected by metabolic reprogramming. The Slc25a1 regulates mitochondrial citrate transport and has been shown to affect cell proliferation and migration in cancer. Astragaloside IV exhibits significant anti-inflammatory activity and improves ischemic stroke, but its regulatory effect on macrophage metabolic reprogramming has not been elucidated.

Article Synopsis
  • Vancomycin is essential for treating Gram-positive bacterial infections, but its effectiveness varies with renal function, making dosage optimization important for patients undergoing surgery.
  • A study analyzed 158 surgical patients, utilizing the CKD-EPI equation to assess renal function and determine appropriate vancomycin dosing; about 54% of patients had augmented renal clearance (ARC).
  • Results suggested that patients with ARC required higher doses (>45 mg/kg/day) of vancomycin to reach effective drug levels, highlighting the need for individualized dosing based on renal function to improve treatment outcomes and reduce the risk of resistance.*
