Background And Aims: Cytotoxic T cells have been postulated to facilitate the destruction of intestinal epithelium in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs). CADM1, which encodes a membrane adhesion protein that can bind the T cell receptor CRTAM, was markedly up regulated in colons of IBD patients compared to non-IBD (NIBD) patients.

Methods: We performed comprehensive small RNA and RNA profiling on colon tissue from IBD and NIBD control patients in addition to characterizing the cleaved extracellular domain of CADM1 (sCADM1) function in lamina propria mononuclear cells (LPMCs) isolated from these patients.

Despite advances in treatment, the prognosis for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) remains dismal, highlighting the need for further therapeutic advances. By using RNA sequencing on pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs), functional enrichment, and connectivity map analyses, we identify Aurora kinase B (AURKB) as a candidate therapeutic target. We show that AURKB inhibition blocks cell cycle progression and reverses the gene signature of PAH-PASMCs.

Objective: Previous research has revealed a positive correlation between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cardiovascular diseases, but the causal relationship is unclear. This study applies Mendelian randomization to examine whether RA causally contributes to the likelihood of various cardiovascular diseases, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, and atrial fibrillation.

A high-quality filler within mixed matrix membranes, coupled with uniform dispersity, endows a high-efficiency transfer pathway for the significant improvement on separation performance. In this work, a zeolite-typed MCM-22 filler is reported that is doped into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix by ultrafast photo-curing technique. The unique structure of nanosheets assembly layer by layer endows the continuous transfer channels towards penetrate molecules because of the inter-connective nanosheets within PDMS matrix.

Most current single-cell analysis pipelines are limited to cell embeddings and rely heavily on clustering, while lacking the ability to explicitly model interactions between different feature types. Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) can originate from either fallopian tube epithelial (FTE) or ovarian surface epithelial (OSE) cells, but with different latencies and disease outcomes. To address the basis of these differences, we performed single cell RNA-sequencing of mouse cells isolated from the distal half of fallopian tube (FT) and surface layer of ovary. We find at the molecular level, FTE secretory stem/progenitor cells and OSE cells resemble mammary luminal progenitors and basal cells, respectively.

Administration of a novel and selective small molecule integrin αvβ6 inhibitor, MORF-627, to young cynomolgus monkeys for 28 days resulted in the rapid induction of epithelial proliferative changes in the urinary bladder of 2 animals, in the absence of test agent genotoxicity. Microscopic findings included suburothelial infiltration by irregular nests and/or trabeculae of epithelial cells, variable cytologic atypia, and high mitotic rate, without invasion into the tunica muscularis. Morphologic features and patterns of tumor growth were consistent with a diagnosis of early-stage invasive urothelial carcinoma.
